Johnny Depp's Moroccan demandsDec 5, 2006, 12:30 GMT
Johnny Depp has demanded a Moroccan-themed trailer on the set of his latest movie 'Sweeney Todd'.
Pinewood Studio bosses have agreed to the 43-year-old actor's unusual request and forked out £20,000 to re-decorate his accommodation with expensive drapes, scented candles and several Moroccan shish pipes - which are used for smoking flavoured tobacco.
Depp is said to have taken interior design advice from his idol Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards - who inspired his 'Pirates of the Caribbean' character Captain Jack Sparrow - who is a huge fan of the North African country and its culture.
A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "There were a few raised eyebrows when producers heard what his demands for his trailer were. But no expense has been spared with the best quality drapes we could find, the pipes and selection of flavoured tobacco for them."
Depp has also demanded the biggest trailer, after discovering fellow actor Vince Vaughn - who is also shooting at Pinewood Studios - is renting the London home he had planned to stay in.
The source added: "Johnny was upset that Vince is renting the house in South West London that he wanted.
"So to make him feel better, Johnny asked that his trailer is bigger than Vince's which is only a few yards away. We've given him the biggest one to make him happy."

From In Too Depp found at ZeeNewsDepp`s razor play terrifies Vanessa Paradis
Washington, Dec 04: Actors often go to extreme lengths to get into the skin of character for their roles. And, rumour has it that Johnny Depp is the latest who`s doing all sorts of things to make his new role as Demon Barber in a film adaptation of the strange Stephen Sondheim musical, Sweeney Todd, as real as possible.
But while he`s focussed on playing his part effortlessly when rehearsals for the film start next month, sources claim Depp`s is quite unaware that his acts are only terryfying eveyone living with him.
Playing the vicious barber who collects human parts for Mrs. Lovett`s meat pies, Depp has been trying to get into character by slitting imaginary throats to the soundtrack of Dies Irae (Day Of Wrath) - the 13th century Latin Hymn traditionally used in the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass.
"Johnny is always very conscientious in his roles. Now he says he has to get into the mind set of a serial killer. He wants to feel adept with the razor blades, to feel as if they were an extension of his arm," Contactmusic quoted a source, as saying.
"But he`s terrifying everyone by walking around his home booming out the song - making an arc with his arm when he slits a person`s throat. "Sweeney calls his razors his `friends` and in this song the Demon Barber pours out his love to his blades," the source added.
Depp is currently living with French singer-actress Vanessa Paradis, with whom he has two children: Lily-Rose Melody, born in 1999 and Jack, born in 2002.

Sweeney "odd"...
... is what today has been.
It started off kinda normal and then just went WAY out there!
I was singing with a group from Metro Voices in a rehearsal for the soundtrack recording on the new "Sweeney Todd" movie. It was great to work with Paul Gemignani (who is Stephen Sondheim's "right-hand-man") as the MD and also Sean Alderking (who I haven't seen in ages) along with a number of my session singing chums - but then, during the rehearsal I was asked to be the stand-in for Johnny Depp.
Not just there for the rehearsal today, but for all the rehearsals whilst the man himself is away filming!! COOL!!
I'm really excited to get the chance not only to sing the role, but also to work with Tim Burton directing, and others such as Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter (and of course the lovely Laura Michelle Kelly again) What an opportunity... I will keep you posted,
I've gotta get learning the score!!!

All-Horror Movie File:Johnny Depp, Tim Burton
by Larry Carroll and Shaun Adler
(excerpt)
Maestro of the macabre Tim Burton is almost ready to begin rolling on "Sweeney Todd," a bloody barber tale he envisions as a hard R-rated horror flick."You can't really skimp on that stuff — it's got to be what it is. It's not going to be a G-rated movie, no," he laughed. "It's kind of like doing 'The Sound of Music' but with lots of blood, so I don't know how that's going to work out. We'll see. I'm excited to try it." Burton's also excited to unveil the vocal work of frequent leading man Johnny Depp, who'll take on his first singing role in his 20-plus-year career.
"It's going to be the [actors singing]. That's important. It's a movie, it's not a Milli Vanilli record," the "Nightmare Before Christmas" mastermind insisted.
So is Burton concerned about gambling his multimillion-dollar movie on a singing voice he's never even heard?
"No. I go over to his house and we sing show tunes every night. It's a ritual with us," he laughed. "Johnny is great. ... I'm always looking for some new kind of challenge, and this certainly is that. We are laughing about it already, and we haven't even started yet."
Another actor who'll be exercising her vocal cords is Burton's girlfriend, Helena Bonham Carter. But the director insisted — contrary to reports — that "Borat" star Sacha Baron Cohen is not on board. "We don't know that for sure yet," he said of the chameleon-esque comedian. "We're still in the early stages of talking to people." ...
