More news about the postponement of filming in the Caribbean.  Johnny was previously scheduled for CATCF press junkets in July, so they would have had to film around him several weeks.  Also a friend of mine from Paramount reports that she has it on good authority that the tank will be used for some fantastic battles against a sea monster - which Orlando has already told us will be some sort of giant squid or kracken.

In the mean, or Grand Bahama Islands Roving Reporter informs us that the seas will be very calm in September, due to the weather patterns at that time of year, and it may be more optional for shooting on the ocean then.

As noted below, the HMS Bounty is in port in Florida, the Black Pearl is in the Bradford Portyard (Grand Bahama).  This portyard is up an inlet and protects the ship from rough seas.

Something funny said to be from the set

With tropical storms and the beginning of hurricane season in the Carribean, the HMS Bounty has taken shelter in Florida - you can keep tabs on her location HERE  and the Bahamas location production of Dead Man's Chest has been postponed for the present.

June 9, 2005
The filming (including actors) has moved to the Grand Bahamas and they are currently experiencing high winds and rough seas due to tropical storms in the region.

Another busy day at Bradford (Grand Bahama) Boartyard, as Black Pearl is given a make-over prior to this weekend shoot somewhere around the "Tank", I was told. A replacement Figurehead was also being fitted today, positioned a little higher than the original.

The Edinburg. is about completed, and stores were being loading today. Perhaps for filming, but the workcrew on board were tight lipped.

Photos from the reporter follow:

A fan got to visit the set in May - read it HERE

Filming on Exuma will end by the 12th and the production is already heading for the Grand Bahamas.  The tank is nearing completion.  As you can see from the first shot, the old pier is all but gone, and in the second one with the barge, you can see the production trailers in the background.

A new scan from Hiro that apparently shows Johnny & Geoffrey filming perhaps an underwater scene for the next movie - something with special effects background.

June 2, 2005 - Reports from the Grand Bahama Islands Roving Reporter and her Asst. GBI Roving Reporter
The Black Pearl has arrived on 2 June 05
on Grand Bahama Island and is still flying
the quarantine flag, indicating she had yet
to clear customs.

Our local roving reporter in Freeport, Bahamas was able to snap off a few shots to share with you. Below is the Black Pearl from photos taken on 2 June 05 just after her arrival on island.

Here is the report he filed:

Some more excitement in the Bradford (Grand Bahama) Boatyard today. The Black Pearl paid us a visit, and will probably be here for an unspecified while. The strange mixture of ancient and modern sailing ships has conjured up a surreal atmosphere around the place.

The third mast for the Edinburg has finally been put in place, and the rigging is being installed as I write. Designed around the original HMS Bounty, she is larger than the Black Pearl, and has a more distinct military look to her. She may be leaving shortly for parts undisclosed at present, but I'll be keeping track of her if possible. Watch this space

From our Grand Bahama Islands Roving Reporter and her Assistant GBI Roving Reporter

On 23 May 05 this boat turned up at a local boatyard. Our local roving reporter in Freeport was able to snap off a few shots to share with you. Below is the ship from photos taken on 31 May 05, with more to follow once the third mast is finished. To see it when it first arrived and as it progresses visit this page: The Making of Pirates of the Caribbean II & III. From our roving Freeport reporter: Work continues apace, after a much needed Memorial Day break. The Bounty, featured below, to be known in the upcoming movie as the " Edinburgh", nears completion. The third mast is on the dockside being prepared for installation, which should happen in the next day or so. These shots also reveal the open "camera ports" for the below decks filming. More shots to come as the work progresses.

Grand Bahama is due to get much busier and we will update this section with developments.

The dates for actual filming to commence within the Commonwealth of the Bahamas was 31 May. They are to film on a sleepy little cay in the southern Bahamas for approximately 2 weeks. The cay is best known for its Iguana population, who may have some footage in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean II & III.
