For all of you smokers out there, here’s a new reason to love Johnny Depp. The 42-year-old hottie, who resides in between France and L.A., vowed to defy any smoking ban imposed in Britain and attacks similar enforcements in his native America.
The Internet Movie Database reports that the actor, who is thought to have a home in the south of England, has cut down on his nicotine habit, but believes smokers should be allowed to quit on their own, without being alienated.
He threatens, "I'll come over and have a smoke-a-thon. They've taken that whole pretzel and stretched it into as absurd pretzel as I've ever seen. Obviously it ain't good for you, and I don't condone it or recommend it, but everyone has to find their own way out of it. The idea of bludgeoning people and telling them that if they smoke they are awful is ludicrous."
Yeah! You go Johnny … you rebel!

Disney signs Jerry Bruckheimer to biggest deal EVERPosted Nov 29, 2005, 3:02 PM ET by Karina Longworth

bruckheimer.jpgThough they've leaked few details, Disney has reportedly signed producer Jerry Bruckheimer to the largest deal in the studio's history. The five year pact (covering only Bruckheimer's film production practice, and not his burgeoning, CSI-fueled television empire) will cover all overhead on The Bruckster's recently-expanded Santa Monica headquarters, as well as production costs on the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean sequels, which are expected to be the most expensive franchise extenders in history. It's apparently all part of Disney's diabolical scheme to snatch up the biggest producers in town; as Variety's Dave S. Cohen puts it, Bruckheimer's there to "focus on tentpoles", whilst Scott Rudin is "slotted for more highbrow material."

From the IndependentRoald Dahl classic is children's pick for film of the year
By Sarah Cassidy
Published: 28 November 2005It is the bittersweet tale of a boy who escapes his poverty-stricken existence and becomes heir to a magical chocolate factory full of strange machines and even stranger people.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has defeated action-packed blockbusters and special effects-filled cartoons to be named by children as this year's best feature film at the 10thBritish Academy Children's Film and Television Awards.
A poll of more than 32,000 children voted Tim Burton's vision of Roald Dahl's classic children's book starring Johnny Depp as best film for young people. This latest film version of the 1964 book beat movies including the popular adventure tales Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Batman Begins.
The award, known as the Bafta Kids' Vote, is the only category to be decided by a survey of children rather than being voted for by the British Academy.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was named the most popular from a shortlist of 10 and the award was collected by 13-year-old Freddie Highmore, who played Charlie Bucket in the film. But it was the runner-up in the feature film category, which is voted for by the members of Bafta. This award was won by The Incredibles, a superhero-family adventure, which also beatThe Polar Express and Shark Tale.
Anne-Marie Flynn, the head of awards at Bafta, said: "This shows how Roald Dahl occupies a unique place in children's hearts. There is also a reason why it is classic - they have the ability to resonate with every new generation.
"Half the films on the shortlist were animated and you would have thought that children are now so bombarded by special effects that would be the sort of thing they would choose. But clearly it was the classic storytelling that mattered to them."
Ms Flynn contrasted this with the selection of the Bafta members who chose The Incredibles for its broad appeal and skilful animation. "It was interesting to see how the children and the adults looked at things differently," she said. "I think that the adults particularly loved the brilliant animation and the fabulous artwork in The Incredibles."
Meanwhile Scene: Oddsquad, a television comedy drama set in Hull and featuring three 16-year-olds who feel like outsiders, won the awards for schools drama and best writer for its creators, John Godber and Jane Thornton.
The British Academy presented a special award to The Junior Television Workshop for its "outstanding" development of young talent for film and television. The workshop, which is in its 22nd year, has launched the careers of young performers who have gone on to appear in programmes such as Grange Hill, Dream Team, Bernard's Watch and Tracy Beaker.

SCISSORHANDS BALLET SMASHES BOX OFFICE RECORDSA dance adaptation of TIM BURTON movie EDWARD SCISSORHANDS has become an unexpected hit on the London stage - before it has even opened.
Ticket sales for the ballet, based on the JOHNNY DEPP movie, topped $1.8 million (GBP1 million) before its first night on Tuesday (22NOV05).
The staggering booking rush beat director MATTHEW BOURNE's own theatre box office record, and he is delighted that Burton snapped up 12 of the popular tickets.
Bourne requested the rights to the story - which follows a scientist who creates a young man with scissors for hands - almost 10 years ago from the maverick film-maker, but is grateful the project eventually materialised.
He says, "I gave up on it once or twice. "I couldn't talk about it any longer and had to get it out of my head."

Johnny Depp Interview
He's been crowned the world's coolest celebrity, People magazine's SexiestMan Alive and this year's Best Actor at the prestigious Screen Actor's Guild awards - but Johnny Depp's proudest achievement to date is becoming a father.
The Hollywood heartthrob is such a devoted dad to Lily Rose, five, and Jack, two, whose mother is beautiful French singer Vanessa Paradis, that he has completely turned his back on his notorious hell-raising lifestyle.
Since moving to France six years ago, the handsome star has transformed from a heavy-drinking depressive to a clean-living, caring partner and father.
He recently revealed to Britain's Sunday Times Magazine: "I haven't had so many black periods lately. Becoming a dad, you don't. It was not just the greatest thing that's ever happened to me - it's the only thing that's ever happened to me. I helped give our daughter life, and I feel she gave me life.
"My whisky days are pretty much over. No substance abuse, no drugs, no hard liquor. I have a glass of wine now and again. Hence my 'Wino Forever' tattoo."
Johnny refers to the tattoo he had done during his engagement to his stunning 'Edward Scissorhands' co-star Winona Ryder, which originally read 'Winona Forever'.
But when the couple split, Johnny had the 'n' and the 'a' surgically removed so the tattoo read 'Wino Forever'.
Winona was just one of Johnny's four fiancées - which even spawned the American bumper sticker which read 'Honk if you haven't been engaged to Johnny Depp'.
He has previously been betrothed to actresses Sherilyn Fenn and Jennifer Grey, as well as supermodel Kate Moss, with whom he had a tempestuous three-year relationship.
However, despite his numerous engagements, Johnny insists he has no plans to walk down the aisle with sexy Vanessa, who he fell for while making 'The Ninth Gate' six years ago.
The actor, who claims it was love at first sight between the two, recently said: "Vanessa and I have considered ourselves husband and wife since the day we moved in together. We just haven't gone through the formalities of legalising our union."
Vanessa is also in no hurry to get married, saying once: "We've never said we don't want to get married, but we're neither opposed to it nor excited about it. We might do it for the kids one day. But we are more than married: we have two children."
The pair live happily together in Vanessa's native France and Johnny claims he has no plans to move back to Hollywood - which is probably a good thing, as he attracted a wave of criticism after criticising America over the Iraq war.
The 41-year-old star caused huge controversy in his native country when he was quoted as saying the US was like "a dumb puppy that has big teeth - that can bite and hurt you, aggressive."
However, Johnny - who was sent hate mail after the comments appeared in German magazine Stern - insists his words were misinterpreted, saying: "I would never insult the American people. I used the metaphor of a puppy dog, but I never said ignorant puppy dog. "I said it's a very young country compared to old Europe, or Asia."
Despite his intentions to continue living in France, Johnny has not completely turned his back on Hollywood, where he first shot to fame in the TV series '21 Jump Street' before being killed by Freddie Kruger in the 1984 horror classic 'A Nightmare On Elm Street'.
He is still making hit movie after hit movie, and, after years of being dismissed as nothing more than a Hollywood pin-up, Johnny finally received the acting credibility he deserved with his role as eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney blockbuster 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl'.
Johnny, who famously based the crazy character on Rolling Stones rocker Keith Richards, received prestigious Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations and won the Best Actor prizes at the Screen Actors Guild awards, the MTV Movie Awards and the Empire magazine Awards, as well as being named Actor of the Year at the Hollywood Film Festival. The chisel-jawed star - whose hit movies include 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?', 'Sleepy Hollow' and 'Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas' - is now looking forward to reprising the role in the upcoming 'Pirates of the Caribbean' sequel, saying: "I went through a decompression period after the first film. If you're really connected with a character you always do. You miss the guy. You miss being that person. "In the back of my mind was the hope that there would be a sequel one day, so I could meet him again."
Captain Jack Sparrow is not the only hell-raising role Johnny has in the pipeline - Sharon Osbourne is desperate for the actor to play her husband, wild rocker Ozzy Osbourne, in a movie of his life. She recently revealed: "We're talking to Johnny, though it's not 100 per cent yet. He would be perfect."
His latest film, 'The Libertine', sees the actor taking on another risqué part and he recently revealed he had banned his children from watching the movie because it's too raunchy.
Johnny, who plays a sex-crazed poet in the movie, joked his two children will have to wait years before he allows them to see it, saying: "I think they'll have to wait to see 'The Libertine'. Something like 40 years."
But Lily Rose and Jack will be able to see their dad's other favourite film which he has starred in, 'Finding Neverland' - in which he plays 'Peter Pan' author JM Barrie.
Johnny said: "When I was approached to do 'Finding Neverland' it was certainly a plus being a film my kids could watch."
Depp remains one of Hollywood’s top actors, despite his refusal to live their, and is constantly adding to his reputation by taking on more varied and challenging roles with every new project he undertakes.
‘The Libertine’ is already being tipped for box-office success after impressing critics, and with the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ sequel - starring Rolling Stone Keith Richards as Depp’s character’s father - set to wow audiences once again next year Depp will remain the outstanding actor of his generation.

Now he returns with Edward Scissorhands, his eagerly anticipated dance version of the 1990 Tim Burton movie that made a star of actor Johnny Depp.

Johnny Depp has caused a controversy by defending smoking in public. The gorgeous actor reckons that clamping down on smokers is a violation of their rights – he believes that it’s up to each individual to quit when he or she feels they are ready. When asked for his opinion on such a ban in England, he said, “Obviously it ain't good for you, and I don't condone it or recommend it, but everyone has to find their own way out of it. The idea of bludgeoning people and telling them that if they smoke they are awful is ludicrous." In a less lucid moment the actor also compared non-smoking attitudes to food: “They've taken that whole pretzel and stretched it into as absurd a pretzel as I've ever seen.” Clearly the nicotine has affected his brain!

Johnny Depp Denies Sending Kate Moss A Mirror And Slamming Pete Doherty![]()
Depp: "I would never have thought a mirror would be the right thing to send her."Actor Johnny Depp recently denied rumours about him sending supermodel Kate Moss a mirror, while she was checked into a rehabilitation centre for her drug addiction.
Depp, 42, who used to date Moss when they were younger, also denied the speculation that he had confronted the supermodel's boyfriend, Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty, to take good care of Moss and to stop her from using drugs.
Moss was photographed last month snorting a line of cocaine from the cover of a CD, in a London recording studio, where Doherty and Babyshambles were registering for a new album.
Depp is quoted on Breaking News as saying: "I would never have thought a mirror would be the right thing to send her."
"I never took Pete Doherty aside. I like him in that I like his music very much. I think he has a great talent and it seems to me that he and Kate could be great together, because she's a great girl."
"She's got a great brain on her and I think she's a good mummy."

20 year movie ban for Depp's kids!
Asian News International
London, November 19, 2005Pirates of the Caribbean star, Johhny Depp has banned his kids, 6-year old Lily Rose and 3-year old Jack, from watching his movie, The Libetine, for a period of twenty years.
Although Depp would allow his kids to see his other movies, Pirates of the Caribbean and the movie adaptation of Roald Dahl's children's book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he absolutely puts his foot down when it comes to the movie, The Libertine.
"I would say it's safe for them to see Pirates of the Caribbean and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but I'd want to wait 20 years before letting them see The Libertine," Femalefirst quoted him, as saying.
The protective father said that the movie, in which he plays the role of the debauched alcoholic 17th century author, Lord Rochester, is not appropriate for the young minds of his children, and added that he wanted them to be innocent and free of the ugliness of the world for as long as it was possible.
"I want my kiddies to be given the opportunity to be children and innocent and innocent and free for as long as possible before the inevitable bad things in the world rear their ugly heads," he said.

ohnny Depp - Torturing the Artist
Elizabeth Snead
The Los Angeles TimesForget about Abu Ghraib. There are far more insidious ways to extract classified information in Hollywood.
Just ask Johnny Depp, who squirmed uncomfortably during his AFI Fest Career Tribute at the ArcLight Friday. The actor was there to be grilled unmercifully about his "oeuvre" and being a "serious actor" and forced to view and comment on clips from his past films.
Depp, nattier than usual in a brown zoot suit, with dark rimmed glasses, a wicked 'stache and an antique watch fob, made self-effacing cracks about himself and his career during the esteemed film critic-author Richard Schickel's Q&A.
After seeing a clip from his first film, John Water's "Cry Baby," Depp practically begged for mercy, asking, "Is this some new form of torture?" But his agony went on and on as he endured clips from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Chocolat," "Edward Scissorhands," "Donnie Brasco" and last year's Oscar nominated "Finding Neverland."
Deflecting Schickel's inquiry into his "outsider" oeuvre, Depp curled his moustache and replied, "Ah yes, I know of the oeuvre. I try to avoid the oeuvre."
The astute critic asked provocative questions such as: "Before you began acting, did you just want to act and act and act? Or did you want to act at all? When did you know you wanted to be an actor? And what got this rolling for you?"
Most enjoyable moment: Depp's deft parry with Schickel over what the cinema seer dubbed Depp's combo of "passion and parody," which is the essence of Depp as a serious actor.
Depp: "Well, I think the term 'serious actor' is such an oxymoron."
Schickel: "What do you mean?"
Depp: "Acting is pretending. How can you be serious when you’re pretending?"
Schickel: "Everyone pretends but you get paid for it."
Depp: "Absolutely! And that's what makes it even more absurd."
After the foul deed was done, Depp rose, waved thanks for the standing ovation and went out to the courtyard to pose with John Malkovich and Samantha Morton at the late night AFI premiere of their new historical film, "The Libertine," along with director Laurence Dunmore.
Even a slender, smiling Harvey Weinstein, whose new film company, The Weinstein Company, is involved with the film's distribution, hung for the late night screening of the tragi-comedy about the Earl of Rochester, the infamous, morally ambiguous rogue-writer and confidante of King Charles II.
And talk about happy endings. Rochester died of syphilis and alcohol poisoning at the age of 33. No mean feat. It's still early in awards season but it's doubtful that Academy members will rally round Depp's depraved "Libertine" lead as they did for his touching "Finding Neverland" portrayal of "Peter Pan" playwright J.M. Barrie.
Just call it a hunch.
"The Libertine" opens nationwide January 13, 2006 after a one week run in selected cities the week of November 25th.
Although the official Disney site claims they are not filming today, I have it on good authority that they are in in the Exumas and they are filming.

THE dead bride, Helena Bonham Carter, wore a brown sweater and frilly olive skirt. Jittery groom Johnny Depp wore white pants and a grey T-shirt. Wedding singer Danny Elfman was all in black.Matchmaker Tim Burton wore a blue shirt and black slacks.
The key players of Tim Burton's animated film Corpse Bride sat down at the Toronto International Film Festival to share recollections of their strange and wondrous matrimonial fantasy and ponder why it is they collaborate so often.
"With all of these people here, it's nice because it feels like a real artistic collaboration," Corpse Bride director Burton said, alongside co-director Mike Johnson, voice stars Depp and Bonham Carter and composer Elfman, who also wrote the movie's songs and sang one of them.
"It's a movie industry, it's a business. It's treated as a business, but I think everybody here likes to think they're making art. You want to be creative and you respond to people who have that spirit. That's a real joy and that's the reason that I like working with these people."
"And trust," said Bonham Carter. "It takes a while to trust someone. You work with people, anybody you don't know, it takes about a film's length to get to know each other."
Burton and Elfman have collaborated on 12 films, among them Edward Scissorhands, Batman and Batman Returns, Beetlejuice, Big Fish and this northern summer's hit Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Along with playing Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Depp's five Burton films include Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow.
After getting his big Hollywood break as an assistant on the animated fantasy Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, Johnson was invited to co-direct the filmmaker's latest stop-motion adventure.
Since co-starring in Burton's remake of Planet of the Apes, Bonham Carter went on to appear in Big Fish and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
"And they had a child," Depp said, to round out Burton and Bonham Carter's collaborations.
After Burton and Bonham Carter met on Planet of the Apes, they became a couple and had a son in 2003. They live in adjoining houses in London.
This time out, Depp provides the voice of Victor, the son of fish merchants hoping to raise their social status by marrying their boy off to the daughter (Emily Watson) of penniless but titled aristocrats.
Yet the nervous bridegroom, who can't master his vows during wedding rehearsal, inadvertently finds himself conjugally joined to the decomposing cadaver of a woman (Bonham Carter) buried in her bridal gown, who has been waiting for a hubby to come and claim her.
The film was created using intricate puppets shot in stop-motion animation, one frame at a time, the same process used on Nightmare Before Christmas.
Elfman recalls Burton describing Corpse Bride about six years ago. As with all of Burton's fanciful tales, Elfman felt certain his musical approach and the director's storytelling style would click.
"Whatever it is, I know there's going to be some sensibility that's a little bit askew and that enables me to catch a hold, and I know it's going to be a good ride," Elfman said.
Since Edward Scissorhands, Depp has had a champion in Burton, who kept coming back to the actor even though Hollywood had its doubts.
"I feel very lucky to have been along for the ride," said Depp, whose choice of odd roles had made him a tough star to cast until Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
"Lucky to get the gigs from him, because I know over the years, he has had to have a great number of battles to get to cast me. Fighting the studio heads. 'You mean the weird guy who does the European art movies? No, he's box-office poison'. Tim would go in and battle for me, so I feel very lucky."
Burton no longer has to beg to cast Depp because of his sudden box-office success. In fact, for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the studio bosses suggested Depp for Willy Wonka "before I could even utter the words," Burton said. "I just thought, 'What took you guys so long? It's about time'."

Sounding offIf only Johnny Depp was actually British. John Patterson salutes the most gifted gab in a tongue-tied Tinseltown
Saturday November 12, 2005
The GuardianKeith Richards, as I live and breathe ... Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean
Watching The Libertine, I had to marvel at Johnny Depp's latest English accent as the plummy obscenities favoured by his character, the Restoration poet John Wilmot, rolled effortlessly off his tongue. Depp seems to be making half a career out of playing Brits, having first road-tested his cockneyisms a few years back in From Hell. He then channelled the spirit of the not-yet-dead-as-far-as-doctors-can-ascertain Keith Richards to find a voice for his jolly Jack Sparrow in Pirates Of The Caribbean, drawing no discernible chorus of outrage from the little England set.
Even more impressive was his successful seizing, in Finding Neverland, of the elusive holy grail of British accents: the Scots burr. That accent has defeated even so gifted a mimic as Harry Shearer, who plays Groundskeeper Willie on The Simpsons, and has routinely made idiots of people like Mel Gibson, who in Braveheart sounded about as Hibernian as HRH the Duchess of Cornwall. Even English actors have been scorched in their vocal ventures north of Hadrian's Wall: they often sound as tin-eared and lost as Americans from the former Union states do when playing characters from the south. Not Johnny Depp: he really nails that pan-loaf tweeness to the wall. If only he could now go all the way, and just be British. Then maybe we'd have an actor of our own who could really storm Hollywood in a way our leading exports, like Jude Law, seem unable to manage. Think of the head-start he'd have.
Usually when Americans essay our accents, the results range from toe-curlingly awful to merely acceptable. Does anyone remember Denzel Washington as a Brixton-born ex-soldier in For Queen And Country? I thought not. And even when an actor is as dutiful and sensitive as Gwyneth Paltrow in, say, Sliding Doors or Emma, the resulting accent puts such restraints on their ability to act, it has the same effect as a fat-suit or an Elephant Man make-up job would. They daren't try anything too flashy or improvisatory lest the accent crack wide open or the Latex mask start to melt. And in case I sound too hard on the American imports, let me also berate the exported limeys who vainly curl their larynges around the American demotic. I remember interviewing an inconsolable Billy Bob Thornton in the aftermath of the numbingly worthy civil war drama Cold Mountain, which starred such renowned southerners as Jude Law, Eileen Atkins, and, ye Gods, Ray Winstone. All Billy Bob could do was keep drawling, "You gotta be fuckin' s**ting me, man!"
I guess they can't all share Depp's remarkable gift for mimicry - I assume he learned his English accent from Kate Moss. If only Gwyneth, Reese, Madonna and the rest of them could either follow his example, or just button up the foreign accents altogether.

Trailer Bulletin: The Libertine
Posted by Scott Weinberg on Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, 02:25 AMScott Weinberg writes: "Interested in a 17th century period drama about a lascivious playwright who infuriates a lot of men, seduces a lot of woman, and eventually drinks himself to death? No? How about if I told you that Johnny Depp plays the title role? Yeah, I thought that'd do it. The film is "The Libertine," and you can enjoy the all-new trailer right here.
"Johnny Depp stars as the decadent John Wilmot, the second Earl of Rochester. The film follows the Earl’s adventures in London, from his passionate romance with a young actress, to the writing of a scurrilous play which blisteringly and bawdily lampoons the very monarch who commissioned it, Charles II, leading to the Earl’s banishment and eventual downfall."
Also on board are John Malkovich, Samantha Morton, and Rosamund Pike. Stephen Jeffreys adapted his own play into movie format, and the film is directed by first-timer Laurence Dunsmore.
"The Libertine" opens in limited release on November 25th."

Johnny Depp hits out at fashion bosses over Kate Moss
Johnny Depp has hit out at fashion bosses for dragging his ex-love Kate Moss "through the mud". The heartthrob actor is furious so many fashion chiefs ditched Kate from their ad campaigns in the wake of her drug scandal.Fashion giants such as Chanel and Hermes axed the catwalk queen after pictures of her snorting cocaine were published on a national newspaper. Depp - who dated the shamed supermodel for four years in the 1990s - is quoted in Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: "Kate should live her life how she wants to." He added: "It was unbelievably unfair the way she was treated. She was dragged through the mud. She's not running for office, she ain't looking to be the next Messiah. "She's not out there philosophising or pretending to be a goody-two-shoes, she's a human being."
The 42-year-old also confessed he too once struggled to beat booze and drugs. He revealed: "There was a great period of confusion when nothing made sense to me. So I indulged in hard liquor and drugs in an attempt not to feel, to self-medicate. But all it did was postpone the inevitable. "I never, luckily, had a great problem. I never got so into a drug that I couldn't get out."

Johnny Depp sensitive to Britain's criticism on Moss"Number two, it was just being appalled and shocked at the kind of vicious attacks," Depp said in an interview Friday with GMTV.
Actor Johnny Depp said he was appalled by the public reaction in Britain to the publication of pictures of his ex-girlfriend Kate Moss allegedly snorting cocaine.
"The first thing that went through my mind was I was concerned for her, hoping that she was OK and that she and her baby were OK," said Depp, 42, who dated the supermodel for four years until 1998.
"Number two, it was just being appalled and shocked at the kind of vicious attacks," Depp said in an interview Friday with GMTV. "She's super sharp, really smart and (has) got a great heart. She's a good mum and she just happens to be human and the press wouldn't allow that, and that's unforgivable."
Moss, 31, recently left an U.S. rehab clinic and was reunited with her three-year-old daughter Lila Grace.
Moss lost several modelling contracts after the photograph was published, but her career appears to be back on track: she appears on the cover of this month's "Vanity Fair" magazine and recently shot a new campaign for designer Roberto Cavalli.

Washington: The good news seems to be continuing for troubled British supermodel, Kate Moss following her return from rehab in an Arizona clinic, where she underwent a month of therapy to rid her of her addiction to drugs. Not only has her profession picked up, with more and more big names in the fashion world rediscovering her talents, her sympathizers in the celebrity circuit have also become more vocal in their support for her, the latest one being Pirates of the Caribbean star, Johnny Depp, who had once dated the supermodel.
"It was unbelievably unfair the way she was treated.
"She was dragged through the mud. She's not running for office and she ain't looking to be the next Messiah.
"I think Kate should live her life how she wants to. She's no dummy, man," Contactmusic quoted the star, as saying.
"She's a great girl and I care about her a great deal," he added.
Ever since her coke addiction was unraveled by The Mirror, Moss has been the subject of extreme media frenzy, and in the aftermath lost out on lucrative contracts with Chanel, Burberry and H+M.

POP MUSICSomething old, something new for Stones
At their final Hollywood Bowl show on Tuesday, the Rolling Stones pulled a few surprises.
By Steve Hochman
Special to The Times
November 10, 2005At their final Hollywood Bowl show on Tuesday, the Rolling Stones treated a star-studded audience with two songs the band has never performed live before — one new and one very old. The latter was an acoustic version of "As Tears Go By," which Mick Jagger introduced as one of the first songs he and Keith Richards wrote together but one that they "gave away." The ballad was a 1964 hit for Marianne Faithfull.
The other first-timer was "It Won't Take Long," which capped a run of three straight songs from the new "A Bigger Bang" album during the show's first half after "Rough Justice" and "Rain Fall Down," a stronger emphasis on current material than has been standard through the Stones' tour that began in August.
Jagger wryly noted the celebrity presence (which included Jack Nicholson, Johnny Depp, Jim Carrey, Clint Eastwood and Bruce Willis) in several onstage comments during the frisky performance.
"Got a lot of famous people here tonight," he said at one point. "Want to thank them all for coming. Too numerous to mention, but they'll all be on stage for the 'Let It Be' finale."
He also commented that the heavy showbiz representation in the audience added a certain pressure to shows here.
"I always feel like we're auditioning," he said of playing in Los Angeles. "But we always get called back."

Terry Gilliam hopes to resume shooting Don Quixote
PRAGUE (AFP) - American director
Terry Gilliam said in Prague that he expects to resume work on Don Quixote, which was set to be the biggest European film ever made but was shelved five days into filming."There is a possibility now, for the first time, that we might get the script of Don Quixote back," Gilliam said during a news conference to mark the Czech premiere of his film "The Brothers Grimm".
"If we can get the film out of the hands of the lawyers, then that will be my next project," said the former Monty Python member, adding that he felt "hopeful."
Although rights to the script have been frozen for several years because of a conflict between the French producer and a German insurance company, a decision could come "before the end of the year", Gilliam told AFP following the news conference.
Although Jean Rochefort will not be able to play Don Quixote, "the presence of
Johnny Depp is secured," Gilliam added.Like Orson Welles, G.W. Pabst and Grigori Kozintsev, the director of "Brazil" has long dreamt of adapting the Cervantes masterpiece under the title "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote".
In early 2000, Gilliam gathered 32 million dollars (27 million euros) in financing. But the film starring French singer
Vanessa Paradis and Spanish actor Rosy de Palma, Pedro Almodovar's muse, collapsed after only five days of filming in Spain.

Celebrities Went Wilder 400 Years Ago?Posted Nov 8, 2005, 1:01 PM ET by Christopher Campbell
Could it be that we are more reserved than were those living four hundred years ago? A.C. Grayling, a professor of philosophy at Birkbeck College, University of London, claims that this is a "more prudish age" than that of the second Earl of Rochester. Johnny Depp portrays Rochester, an immoral celebrity of 17th Century England, in the new film The Libertine.
While giving a short biography of the scandalously offensive member of Charles II's court in The Independent, Grayling considers the upcoming film and its unlikelihood of suitably representing the man (infamous for wicked satires, a dirty mouth, extreme lechery, pedophilic homosexuality, and violent dueling) or the period in which he lived. He writes, "However good the film is, and however many X-ratings it gets, it can never capture all the truth about Rochester...not all his doings can be reprised on the cinema screen."
Unfortunately the prof never addresses what actual doings couldn't be fit for 21st Century audiences and I have trouble pondering taboos that are still too heavy for film. Sure today there is a conservative religious presence that may take more offense with Rochester than did his contemporaries, but then again the Puritans came out of the same era as the Earl and the Libertine movement. Meanwhile the more open-minded minority of the present has a tolerance for pretty much anything. If Rochester were alive today, would he still be considered the most lewd of the land? Not in a time of Paris Hilton, Johnny Knoxville and Pete Doherty (fittingly of a band called The Libertines).
Rochester could not have performed any act worse than those seen in a John Waters movie nor could he have said anything more tasteless than will be heard in Sarah Silverman's new concert film Jesus is Magic. There are obviously some things that Johnny Depp cannot literally depict as the legendary pimp and poet, such as murder, but what may not be done illegally for real may always be simulated in the movies.
What I assume Grayling means is that The Libertine will not be a huge hit at the box office. But that is a given. The bigger reasons, though, for its inevitable failure lie in its being too raunchy for the usual period-piece crowd, and too much a period piece for the usual fans of crass. The Weinstein Co. seems to be focused on Depp's performance in their decision to distribute the film for one Oscar-contending week in New York and Los Angeles this month with a wider release held off until after the New Year.
While we wait and see how The Libertine fares, can anyone think of something (other than child pornography and snuff) that is still even restricted from being shown in an NC-17 picture?

Movie Tells of Hunter S. Thompson Send-Off
ASPEN, Colo. - Fans of Hunter S. Thompson will get an inside view of his elaborate memorial service in a film directed by Wayne Ewing."When I Die" will be shown Saturday at the Starz Denver International Film Festival. The hour-long movie depicts the creation of the 15-story tower that was used to blast Thompson's ashes into the sky at a closed memorial service on his Woody Creek property in August.
Thompson shot himself in his kitchen on Feb. 20, apparently despondent over health problems. He was 67.
National and most local media were barred from the tribute to Thompson, who is credited, along with Tom Wolfe and Gay Talese, with helping pioneer New Journalism — he dubbed his version "gonzo journalism" — in which the writer was an essential component of the story.
Ewing, who directed 2003's "Breakfast With Hunter," also shows the planning and governmental approvals that organizers needed in order to honor Thompson's wishes for his send-off.
Johnny Depp, who played Thompson in 1998's "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," paid the $2.6 million cost of the memorial.

The Two Rakes
It's Johnny vs. Heath at the holiday box office. Johnny Depp and Heath Ledger both play legendary seducers in "The Libertine" and "Casanova," respectively.Ledger's Casanova works his wiles on the bodiced ladies of 18th-century Venice, including London it-girl Sienna Miller; his primary antagonist is a wildly over-the-top Inquisitor played by Jeremy Irons. Director Lasse Hallstrom ("Chocolat") steers "Casanova" toward light comedic entertainment, which is ably supplied by his wife Lena Olin (Jennifer Garner's mother the spy on "Alias") and her rotund love interest Oliver Platt ("The West Wing"). The Disney studio has Oscar hopes for "Casanova," although Ledger's first nomination for Best Actor will likely come from his heartbreaking turn as a gay cowboy in "Brokeback Mountain."
In Laurence Dunmore's "The Libertine," Depp enjoyably swashbuckles his way through the anything-goes 17th-century Restoration court of King Charles II (played deliciously by the movie's producer, John Malkovich), making love to pre-feminist actress Samantha Morton, but then veers toward the self-destructive excesses at the end of the Earl of Rochester's too-short life. The Weinstein Co. is handling an Oscar campaign for Depp. Harvey Weinstein has always known where the Academy sweet spot is, with such period romps as "Shakespeare in Love."

Is Terry Gilliam going back to his Don Quixote movie?Posted Nov 3, 2005, 6:01 PM ET by Karina Longworth
Earlier this week, at a screening of The Brothers Grimm (he's still beating away at that poor thing? Hasn't he given up and moved on to Tideland yet?), Terrry Gilliam hinted that he may yet return to The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, the accursed project documented in the documentary, Lost in La Mancha. "We’re getting closer to getting the script to Don Quixote back," the director said. "There was kind of a legal situation where the insurance company and French production company put up a lot of money, but it looks as though things are loosening up.” If Gilliam has temporarily lost control of his content, he hasn't lost his potential star. "“Johnny [Depp]’s still there, we caught him in Toronto - he said publicly [he would do it] again so we’re good."
Still, one would be advised against letting their hopes rise; as Dan Jolin points out in Empire, "Gilliam’s career is littered with fantastic-sounding nearly-mades: A Tale Of Two Cities, The Defective Detective, Watchmen…" It seems true that, to be a Gilliam fan, one must get used to a certain amount of disappointment. I'm not the best person to answer this question – I've never felt anything more than neutral about Gilliam's work to begin with – but I feel as though it needs to be asked nonetheless: does Terry Gilliam matter anymore? He took so long off after Fear and Loathing, and The Brothers Grimm was ridculously disappointing. Gilliam devotees, speak up: have you yet lost your faith?
