Bruckheimer Talks Pirates Sequels
Who might return to the Caribbean?June 29, 2004 - Producer Jerry Bruckheimer spoke with About.com about the planned sequels to the blockbuster hit Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which Gore Verbinski will return to direct.
The sequels, which might film back-to-back, are currently being scripted by Terry Rossio & Ted Elliot. "They did an outline for 2 and 3. They're writing number 2 right now and we're negotiating with all the actors," Bruckheimer advised the site. ""It will be continuing, but you'll definitely have an end at the end of two. The story will pick up again in three."
He added that, while the movies will still take place in the Caribbean, some filming might take place in Thailand as well.
Bruckheimer said "Johnny [Depp]'s really excited about doing it. You can ask Keira [Knightley]. I think she's excited about doing it and we'd love to have Orlando [Bloom] back. He's told Gore he wants to do it. So it comes down to if you can financially afford them because they've all become bigger stars than they were when we first started three years ago."
But will the villainous Geoffrey Rush also return? "That's going to be a secret. I'm not going tell you, but we have plans."
Thanks to Moviehole for the heads-up!

From Amy - this is news about Johnny's good friend, Marlan BrandoDevastating News About Marlon Brando Marlon Brando, who is regarded by some as the greatest film actor of the 20th century, has been reduced to a life of destitution and poverty, according to an upcoming biography by Patricia Ruiz. London's Sunday Times and The Guardian newspaper report that Brando is crippled by legal and family battles that have left him with some $20 million in debts and no way to pay them. Marlon Brando: Brooding, raw, honest, he was unlike anyone audiences had seen before. Now the mark of his style is in descendants from De Niro to DiCaprio.
The not-yet-published biography, "Brando in Twilight," claims that the 80-year-old actor, who was once the industry's highest paid, is now "nearly destitute" and living on Social Security payments, a pension from the Screen Actors' Guild, and small residuals. Ruiz writes in the book that Brando lives alone in a one-bedroom home on Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles. She quotes a visitor to the home as saying it is "claustrophobic" and decorated with beaded curtains and shabby couches. A poll of British film fans rated the top 100 movie actors. Brando is not No. 1. Click to find out where he lands on the list and who beats him. The Guardian reports that Brando's sizeable fortune has been eclipsed by his eccentric spending habits and a series of costly legal battles, including millions in lawyer's fees for his son Christian, who was tried and convicted of voluntary manslaughter for shooting his sister's boyfriend, and a palimony suit brought by his former maid. Brando won two Oscars for "On the Waterfront" and "The Godfather." He refused to accept the second Oscar as a protest against government treatment of native Americans.

Depp, often voted as one of the sexiest men in the world, will play the role of magical chocolate maker Willy Wonka in the film, movie.com reported. The film will hit theatres in August 2005.
"Charlie..." is being directed by Depp's old friend Tim Burton. Depp and Burton are also working on an animated film "Corpse Bride".
Tim Burton and Johnny Depp to team for yet another project
The Corpse Bride Speaks!
From HELLO Magazine
Burton's voice cast announced
29 June 2004
Way back in January we talked to the mop-headed genius that is Tim Burton, and he told us about a new animated project he was working on called The Corpse Bride. Made in the stop-motion style of The Nightmare Before Christmas, the story is based on a Russian folktale about a man who mistakenly marries a dead woman. According to Burton, the whole thing is a "cheery story in a similar vein" to Nightmare - clearly this is a man for whom cheerfulness is relative – and will have some musical numbers, although not to the same extent as the Christmas classic. The big news today, however, is that the cast have been recruited, and rather exciting it is too. Johnny Depp will be Burton's muse once more, as he combines lead voice duties in The Corpse Bride with his starring role in Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Fellow Burton alumni Helena Bonham Carter, Albert Finney and Christopher Lee will take roles, as will Emily Watson, Richard E Grant and Joanna Lumley.
Danny Elfman will also be returning to work with Burton when he scores the film, his thirteenth collaboration with the director. We therefore declare today National Hooray Tim Burton's Making A Film With All His Favourite People Day, so go celebrate.

"Corpse Bride" carries on in the dark, romantic tradition of Burton's classic films "Edward Scissorhands" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas." Set in a 19th century European village, this stop-motion, animated feature follows the story of Victor (Depp), a young man who is whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride (Bonham-Carter), while his real bride, Victoria (Watson), waits bereft in the land of the living. Though life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colorful than his strict Victorian upbringing, Victor learns that there is nothing in this world, or the next, that can keep him away from his one true love. It's a tale of optimism, romance and a very lively afterlife, told in classic Tim Burton style.
"Corpse Bride" is scheduled for release in October, 2005. The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Viper Room changes management. June 23, 2004
I called the Viper Room tday and was told Sal Jenco no longer manages the Viper Room and that any other questions need to go through "Max Media" and then they hung up. So it looks like Taime's report below is totally valid and accurate. As many of you know, Josh Richmond not only guest starred on 3 episodes of 21 Jump Street, but has been Johnny's friend since the 80's and was the person who introduced Johnny to Winona. He has been the host of the Viper Room's Monday Night "Camero" for years - an 80's flash back show. Sal Jenco has been Johnny's best friend since they were kids in Florida, and Sal also had a recurring role on 21 Jump Street.

Taime Downe, who was the DJ at the Viper Room on Monday nights, posted this on his website regarding the Viper Room.

Boycott the Viper Room ...it's not the Viper anymore
I don't know if you heard? Last Monday night the Viper Room's security locked out Metal Skool a.k.a. Metal Shop and Josh Richman the MC and promoter of Camaro, the night that have spent the last 4 years on Monday night packing the place.
It was going to be the last night there, as we are taking the ROCK to the Roxy next Monday.
Josh is like my brother and closest friend I have ever had, and the reason I agreed to DJ there. It was a close-knit family vibe of people that owned and ran the Viper. I've known Josh for 19 years and Johnny and Sal for 18. I was there for the opening and for the tragic night River died.
Before it was the Viper it was the Central and the first place Faster Pussycat ever played. So when Johnny, and Sal took it over and turned it into the Viper and made a cool club into a badass club, I was thrilled.
For some legal reason that I don't know and isn't any of my bee's wax, they were force out, and some *beep* corporation was put in charge of it. Instead of being grateful for making them a *beep*-load of bones, they had to end it like a bunch of bitter bitches.
NOW they have to deal with the repercussions....
Just so you know Josh, Depp, Sal, Bobby, Jack, Dayle and I'm not sure at this time who else is gone, oh.... and me , have nothing to do with the Viper Room anymore... I think anyone who continues to hang at that *beep* stain club is on the wrong side of my fence… We will see the rest of you all at the Roxy on Monday... and for the others?DONT bother to ask to play or EVEN come to our other clubs, which means Thunder Pussy @ King King and the Dragonfly to name a couple.
They can take and ruin a great club.... but they can't take my memories.... What they have now is just the shell of the club but not the REAL Viper Room... that’s gone now. It was fun. Thank you.

DEPP MAY TAKE OZZY ROLEJohnny Depp is understood to be in talks to play Ozzy Osbourne in a film about the rocker's life.
In an interview with Kerrang! magazine, Ozzy's wife Sharon said nothing was 100% certain.
But she said the former Black Sabbath frontman was talking to the Pirates of the Carribean star about the role.
Sharon also hinted that Ozzy, who was badly hurt in a quad bike accident a few months ago, might retire in a couple of years.Johnny Depp has recently returned to the big time with Chocolat and Pirates of the Caribbean.
But his acting career has focussed on offbeat films like Edward Scissorhands and Benny and Joon.

23 JUNE 2004Loveable maniac Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon have set their sights on hosting a Richard and Judy-style chat show in the UK. "We are in talks with them about projects," confirms an ITV spokeswoman.
The outrageous duo, who have just signed up to do An Audience With The Osbournes due out this autumn – have apparently wanted to present a chat show together for a while, and approached the UK channel with the idea. "The show would probably have to be late night because of their swearing, but they have promised they could get some great celebrity guests," reveals an insider.
Sharon, who has already had a taste of chat show hosting through her Sky One series last year, says: "I'd love to do a chat show with Ozzy. We'd be great together and have so many friends we'd invite on."
While Ozzy and Shazzah contemplate following in the footsteps of Richard and Judy, Hollywood heart-throb Johnny Depp may be set to step into those of the crazy rocker. The Edward Scissorhands star has reportedly been approached about portraying Ozzy in a new film about the rocker's life. "We're talking to Johnny, but it's not 100 per cent yet," reveals Sharon.
And when it comes to portraying Ozzy on screen, Sharon apparently has Hollywood hunk Johnny Depp in mind for the part.

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton finally have a full cast of young performers to lead through their update of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
By Lisa JohnsonLondon, England
Twelve-year-old British actor Freddie Highmore, appearing in this Friday's new family release Two Brothers, will play the title role of Charlie Buckett in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton's adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl children's tale based on a screenplay by John August (Big Fish, Charlie's Angels). For Highmore, this marks his second collaboration with the currently high flying Depp. The young performer also plays one of four fatherless children who get to know Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie (Depp) in the upcoming Neverland, a British production co-starring Kate Winslet, Julie Christie, Dustin Hoffman and others. Highmore's other upcoming project is the fantasy adventure Five Children and It, co-starring Kenneth Branagh and Eddie Izzard as the voice of It, with special effects by Jim Henson's Creature Shop.
The roles of Charlie and the other lucky golden ticket winners were decided by Burton with the help of longtime British casting director Susie Figgis, who made headlines a few years ago when she helped director Chris Columbus unearth Daniel Radcliffe for the lead role in a little film called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001). The cousin of filmmaker Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas, Cold Creek Manor), she has been working extensively as a casting director in the United Kingdom since the early 1980s and is known for her fruitful collaborations with filmmakers such as Sir Richard Attenborough, Mike Newell and Neil Jordan.
Along with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Figgis' other major 2005 theatrical release is the long-awaited movie adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, for which she again made news in April of this year with the decision to cast rapper Mos Def in the role of Ford Prefect, alongside other cast members such as John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell, Zooey Deschanel and Bill Nighy.
Joining the busy young actor Highmore in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are:
- Annasophia Robb as Violet Beauregarde: her previous credits include the TV movie Samantha: An American Girl Holiday and the upcoming Wayne Wang feature Because of Winn-Dixie;
- Jordan Fry as Mike Teavee, the aggressive smart aleck who loves television;
- Julia Winter, making her big screen acting debut as rich kid Veruca Salt;
- Philip Wiegratz as the gluttonous Augustus Gloop. This being a Tim Burton film, many of the filmmaker's favorite creative partners are on board once again for the ride, including composer Danny Elfman, set decorator Peter Young and cinematographer Philippe Rousselot. Intriguingly, one of the producers for this new updating of the original 1971 Wonka vision is Brad Grey via Plan B Productions, the recently established shingle of Hollywood super couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston.
Veteran producer Richard Zanuck is also on board alongside Roald Dahl's widow Felicity Dahl, who serves as one of the film's executive producers. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will film in England and is tentatively set for a July, 2005 theatrical release.

Stars rally for Celtic legend's charity single
Mark MacAskillThe film actor Johnny Depp has agreed to appear in the video of the song, On the Road to Paradise, along with Shane MacGowan of the Pogues and Jim Kerr of Simple Minds.
A biographical film of Johnstone’s life will include interviews with the American film actor Robert Duvall, a close friend of Johnstone’s, Alex Ferguson, Bobby Charlton, Sven Goran Eriksson and Fran Healy, the Travis frontman.
Johnstone, the former Celtic and Scotland winger, regarded by many as the greatest footballer Scotland has produced, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2002.
No cure is known for the disease of the nervous system, which kills five people a day in the UK.
The single, which aims to raise money and awareness of the condition, is expected to become a bestselling record because of Celtic’s worldwide support. The double A-side features Johnstone in a duet with Kerr, covering the Ewan MacColl classic, Dirty Old Town.
The third song on the CD, entitled Lord of the Wing, is performed by John McLaughlin, the Scots songwriter who has written lyrics for Westlife and formed the boy band Busted.
All profits will go towards the Jimmy Johnstone motor neurone disease tribute fund, which helps sufferers of the disease in Scotland, the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland and Radio Lollipop, a charity that provides entertainment for children in hospital.
The idea for the single came after Kerr and Johnstone performed an impromptu version of Dirty Old Town during shooting for the film of Johnstone’s life, which was premiered in Glasgow last month.
Depp, who is to play Willy Wonka in a new film of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory agreed to take part in the video after being asked by MacGowan while the pair were filming The Libertine, a period drama, in Gloucestershire. MacGowan and Johnstone have been friends since they met last year.
"The single wasn’t really planned," said Johnstone. "Jim and I just recorded a couple of takes but he thought it was so good that we should release it. I’m really pleased with the calibre of people who have got involved, they’re all really busy, it was great of them to spare the time."
Kerr said: "I’m a huge Celtic fan. I watched Jimmy as a boy and if you’d told me I’d end up singing with him, the chances are I’d have had you carted off.
"He’s obviously a man of many talents because he’s a great, great singer and it was a real pleasure. He’s a hero and probably the best footballer this country has ever produced."
MacGowan said: "I wrote the song in the studio within a few minutes and we recorded it the same day. Jimmy has been a hero to me since I was young and we got on very well when we first met last year; I was very pleased to get involved."
Jamie Doran, who directed the biopic, said: "I used to watch him as a boy and I was mesmerised. I was shocked about the news of his affliction and thought, ‘Let’s do something about it.’ It’s been great to be in a position to do something for your childhood hero."
Motor neurone disease affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord along which the brain sends instructions in the form of electrical impulses to the muscles. Its cause is not known.
Degeneration of the nerve cells leads to weakness and wasting of muscles. This generally occurs in arms or legs but can affect muscles in the face and throat, causing problems with speech.

Holding Out For A Hero - BLINK MagazineBlink conducted an exhaustive survey of 1000 British men, asking the question, “Who do you idolise?”
Of course we want to appear handsome and sexy to the opposite sex and Johnny Depp fits that bill.
He has the undeniable attraction of being unconventional and idiosyncratic as can be seen in Edward Scissorhands, Benny and Joon, and Ed Wood. Depp never seems to take life too seriously, retaining a sense of humour and yet, he’s also able to wear the mantle of great lover convincingly, as in Don Juan De Marco. He doesn’t shy from revealing the rebel that dwells within all of us and often will explode in fisticuffs. Once again we warm to experiencing life on the edge, not knowing what will happen next. That is Johnny Depp’s major appeal - the uncertainty of what he will do, and the fact that whatever it is, it may be totally crazy and cause mayhem.

CHARITY CD BLOW FOR JINKY Jun 19 2004ENGLISH record shops have put the boot into Scots football legend Jimmy Johnstone's charity record.
They are refusing to stock his rendition of Dirty Old Town, recorded to raise cash for Jinky's Motor Neurone Disease Tribute Fund. The former Celtic star was diagnosed with the illness two years ago and now devotes himself to raising awareness of the illness.
The single only needs to sell 20,000copies to reach the top five in the charts.
But producers say the song, which also features Simple Minds singer Jim Kerr and has the backing of Hollywood stars Johnny Depp and Robert Duvall, is being sabotaged by English record shops.
Producer Jeff Healey said: 'It is not because they don't like him or don't believe in the charitable nature but because they have so many c ** p English football songs.
'They are scared of having another record on the shelves categorised as a football song.
'But it is not a football song. It is professionally produced by Simple Minds, sung with their boyhood hero.
'Jimmy has a voice better than Rod Stewart and Bono put together.' Celebrities from all over the world have agreed to appear in the song's video.
Depp, 41, was asked to take part by Pogues singer Shane McGowan while they were filming together in England.
They will be joined by a host of other household names, including Duvall, Alex Ferguson, Bobby Charlton, Sven Goran Eriksson and Travis singer Fran Healy.
Johnstone said: 'I'm really pleased with the calibre of people involved. They are all really busy. It was great of them to spare the time.'

From the Hollywood Reporter:I have Lindsay Lohan and her amazing PDBs (public displays of boobage) and JoBlo has...Johnny Depp. To be fair, JoBlo is just as much a Lohan fiend as I am and everybody here at the site digs on Johnny and his wonderfully eccentric style. Anyway, it seems as if the cast of Johnny's next film, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, is pretty much all set. Besides Johnny as Wonka, the rest of the cast includes AnnaSophia Robb as Violet Beauregarde, Jordan Fry as Mike Teevee, Julia Winter as Veruca Salt and Philip Wiegratz as Augustus Gloop. Freddie Highmore and David Kelly were previously cast as Charlie and Grandpa Joe respectively. Cast readings and run-throughs are taking place as we speak in London where CHARLIE will be filmed. Production is currently scheduled to begin on Monday, though that may be pushed back ever-so-slightly. Tim Burton's film is considered more an adaptation of Roald Dahl's book than a remake of the 1971 Gene Wilder film. Some aspects may stay the same but many (the boat sequence with the chicken heads being cut off??) likely won't. WB is planning a summer 2005 release for the film. After filming wraps on CHARLIE, Senor Depp is expected to segue into filming on the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN sequels, which may be filmed back-to-back.

Why Some Men Are So HandsomeGood-looking guys have picky ladies and a sexual power shift during primate evolution to thank for their sculpted chins, prominent cheekbones, and baby blues.
That's the word from scientists at the Research Institute Senckenberg in Frankfurt, Germany and the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom who have determined that as our ancestors evolved, a strange thing happened to those hunters and gatherers: The ability to attract a female mate through good looks and a softer appearance likely became more important than the ability to fight off male rivals and loudly thump their chests, reports New Scientist.
Woo, don't wrestle.
The international research team came to this conclusion after analyzing the shapes and sizes of facial features in chimps, gorillas, and other primates. "Our research suggests that in early humans, a face that was attractive as opposed to aggressive conferred an advantage," Eleanor Weston at the Research Institute Senckenberg in Frankfurt, told New Scientist. And those changes were driven by none other than picky females who desired a mate who was handsome instead of one whose primary ability was brute force.
In practical terms that meant the prominent canine teeth that primate males developed to assert their dominance and hone their fighting ability, may have been replaced by smaller, less aggressive teeth and better facial looks. The ladies favored broader faces with prominent cheekbones. (The ladies still favor this look. Exhibits A and B: Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom.)
These facial patterns proved to be true not only with gorillas and chimps, but also other primates. Wherever males had broader faces, their canines were closer in size to those of females. The opposite was true in males with more elongated faces, notes New Scientist. "At one end of the spectrum were humans and chimps, where mate choice may have been more important," says Weston. "At the other end where you had baboons and gorillas, competition between males may have been more important."
The research findings were published in the journal Biology Letters

"The Forbes Celebrity 100 List is our effort to quantify celebrity." Formulated through a combination of earning power and media exposure via television, Internet and national publications, Newcomb explains this year's picks:
No. 10: JOHNNY DEPP - "We figured he made about $28 million in the past year, and really it's all entirely from 'Pirates of the Caribbean.' That movie did about $600 million around the world, sold another couple of million on DVD and it really catapulted Johnny Depp into that big league where he can make $20 million a picture."
No. 9: STEVEN SPIELBERG - "We figured he made about $75 million. All he has to do is wake up and he'll make $60 million on any given year. He had a fairly quiet year for him -- he's got 'The Terminal' starring TOM HANKS coming up -- but we can expect to see Spielberg somewhere near the top next year."
No. 8: BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - "Springsteen made $64 million in the past year. He was on the road again, he made about $120 million, he sells tons of T-shirts and other merchandise -- he's just a walrus on the road."
No. 7: MICHAEL JORDAN - "Jordan made $35 million and he doesn't even play anymore. But you know what? He's still one of America's most popular pitchmen. He's got all sorts of lucrative endorsement deals. Most of it comes from Nike, but he's one of the highest-paid guys in commercial television."
No. 6: J.K. ROWLING - "Rowling made $147 million. We anointed her a billionaire over this year. The Harry Potter franchise is just going to keep her on top of the list the next couple of years."
No. 5: THE ROLLING STONES - "The Rolling Stones made $51 million. These guys are on top of the list; when they go on the road, they just sell millions of dollars. Their Four Licks tour grossed $120 million this year. They did a wonderful combination of club gigs and stadium gigs and small hall gigs, a fan's favorite."
No. 4: TOM CRUISE - "Tom Cruise made $45 million, all of it coming from 'The Last Samurai.' Tom hasn't been on the list since 2001 when he topped our list, and now he's back in the top 10."
No. 3: OPRAH WINFREY - "Nobody makes money like Oprah as routinely as she does. This year we figured she made $210 million. She's got books and magazines and movies, and now she's even teaching a class at Northwestern."
No. 2: TIGER WOODS - "He's really taken over Michael Jordan's role as the biggest pitchman in the world. Nike alone pays him over $25 million a year. He hasn't won much recently, but he's still the [PGA] tour's top-ranked player. You know, $80 million, it's a pretty good year."
And, drum roll please, the most powerful celebrity in Hollywood, according to the Forbes Celebrity 100 List:
No. 1: MEL GIBSON - "If you look at the top 10, it's really a snapshot of wealth and power in Hollywood. Is he the most powerful person in Hollywood? No. But if you look at the past 12 months, nobody generated as much money, as much infamy in the press, as Mel did. We figured he made $210 million almost entirely from 'The Passion of the Christ.' That movie today has done $600 million around the world and there hasn't been anything that's generated that much publicity."

St Helens Star - 17-Jun-2004Johnny Depp in St Helens? Don't make me laugh!
STORIES circulating around town that Hollywood heart throb Johnny Depp visited St Helens have been rubbished by Johnny Vegas's agent.
The two Johnny's struck up a friendship while making a film in the Isle of Man, but it seems that some news websites were wide of the mark when they ran stories that the St Helens comedian invited his new pal to town to show him the sights.
Bev Dixon, Johnny's agent was staggered by the story.
"I'm gob smacked. It is totally made up," she said. "There is nothing in this at all. Johnny was at home ill in bed when this was supposed to have happened.
"The film finished shooting at the end of April and they have not seen each other since.
"I presume Johnny Depp is back in France."

Movie of the Day for Thursday, June 17, 2004 "Finding Neverland"
J.M. Barrie's Neverland
Release Date: October 22, 2004Peter Pan is an icon to children of all ages. The boy in green who never has to grow up is the subject of envy to kids as they face the realities of the maturation process. What most people don't realize about this mythical figure is the very real causality for his creation.
James M. Barrie, as some of you Jeopardy studs might know, is the Scottish scribe who created Peter Pan. Had he been given a glance into the future, bearing witness to the atrocity of tights-clad Sandy Duncan wire-working her away across the stage might have been cause enough to dissuade him. But I digress. The point is that Barrie's decision to create a utopian fantasy realm of carefree, blissful people was done out of necessity rather than a sense of whimsy. For you see, the home life of J.M. Barrie was a source of extreme frustration.
A struggling playwright trying to build his reputation at the world famous West End of London would have been cause enough for vexation. For Barrie, the workplace was a place to escape the dissatisfaction with the workings of the world. When he would go home, he was subjected to the frustration that naturally followed from his empathetic encounters with a neighboring family.
Sylvia Davies bore her husband four sons. Her reward was abandonment, as the man couldn't handle the pressures of such a rigorous, involving family life. Her boys - George, Jack, Michael and Peter - were her life. Unfortunately for all involved, said life was coming to an end. Sylvia's constitution was such that she didn't have much time left. Her sons took care of her the best that children could do, but they were overwhelmed by the afflictions and impediments in their life.
Enter James M. Barrie.
The author grew to be the male role model in the family's life. He catered to sick Sylvia, and he became a father figure to the boys. As he interacted more and more the ill-fated family, Barrie grew cynical and began to lament the harshness of life. Purposefully, he entered the creative process, seeking to build a realm that would be free from pain and suffering.
The movie J.M. Barrie's Neverland will juxtapose the challenges in getting the play Peter Pan off the ground along with an exploration of his home life, such as it was. Kate Winslet, Lady Titanic herself, will play Sylvia Davies. The real head turner on this project, though, is Johnny Depp. The 2004 Academy Award nominee for Best Actor will seek to follow up his star-making performance in The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl by returning to his eclectic roots. This will be a distinctly darker role which is more in keeping with Depp's body of work. Let's be honest here: the amusement park movie was the change of pace rather than the norm for the It Boy of the class of 2003. (David Mumpower/BOP)

Graham King, the man celebrated for his risky financing of Scorsese’s Gangs of New York and The Aviator, strikes a three-year-deal with Johnny Depp.By Larry Carroll
In some ways, film financier Graham King is a more successful version of Elie Samaha, the contro-versial Hollywood figure known for bankrolling star pet projects such as John Travolta’s Battleship Earth and Sylvester Stallone’s Get Carter. In just a few short years, the 42-year-old British native has made films such as Traffic, Ali and Gangs of New York, working out of the modest Santa Monica offices of his Initial Entertainment Group (IEG).
King has also managed to strike first-look deals with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions and Catherine Zeta-Jones Milkwood Productions, adding up to a solid reputation as a no nonsense and passionate dealmaker with an eye for a good script. As a result, the red-hot Johnny Depp, who surely had his pick of the lots in deciding where to park himself over the next few years, has chosen to go with King in a three-year first look deal.
Depp, most recently seen in the critically-panned but financially successful thriller Secret Window, hopes to use the partnership to continue to tap into the newfound level of A-List fame that had eluded him for much of his twenty years in Hollywood. His new production company, called somewhat cheekily Infinitum Nihil, intends to co-produce films with King’s Initial Entertainment Group.
The first project for the partnership, according to a report in Daily Variety, will be an adaptation of a Laurent Graff novel called Happy Days. Those already dream-casting Depp for the role of Potsie Weber will be saddened to know, however, that the book is not based on the popular TV program but instead tells the decidedly more somber story of a young man who buys his own grave at 35 and decides to spend the rest of his natural life in a rest home. The project does not yet have a screenwriter attached.
Said Depp: "I have great admiration for Graham King and his work. I feel privileged to be given this opportunity, and think Infinitum Nihil has found a great partner in Graham. I am very eager to find, develop and bring to life intriguing material."
"Johnny is one of the most talented and knowledgeable actors in the industry,” King returned. “I look forward to creating a very successful company with him." Let’s hope we love their films half as much as the two seem to love each other.”
Lorrain discovered that IMDB finally has a listing for POTC2 HERE not much we haven't already heard. Release date is 2006. Thanks for the tip, Lorrain

King gets pirate's bootyHOLLYWOOD -- Johnny Depp (news) has signed a three-year, first-look production deal with Graham King's Initial Entertainment Group.
Initial will finance and co-produce pics with Depp's new production shingle, Infinitum Nihil. Initial will co-finance shingle's first pic, "Happy Days," an adaptation of the novel penned by Laurent Graff.
With Initial and Infinitum Nihil, Depp will develop projects he is expected to serve as producer on and/or star in. It has not been determined yet whether he will star in "Days," but he will produce with King.
Depp will be the company CEO, Christi Dembrowski will serve as prexy and Sam Sarkar has been named director of development. Infinitum Nihil will have L.A. offices but will not be based at Initial's headquarters.
Under the terms of the non-exclusive deal, Initial will fully finance and co-produce films with Infinitum Nihil, cover the company's overhead costs and provide an undisclosed discretionary fund for development on a project-by-project basis. Initial will also retain international rights to the pics.
As yet no screenwriter has been attached to "Days," the story of an odd young man who prematurely acquiesces to his terminal destiny when at age 18, he buys his own grave and at 35 chooses to spend the rest of his life in a rest home. Soon he settles into his new life as life of the party, sex toy of the nurses and best friend of an Alzheimer's patient. But his carefree life changes when a dying woman arrives with whom he forms a unique bond.
(Note by Kazren: Christi Dembrowski is Johnny's sister, and Sam Sarkar was a sound technician for him.)

Finding Neverland
"I have recently spoken with Miramax about FINDING NEVERLAND. (J.M. BARRIE'S NEVERLAND, originally entitled NEVERLAND, has been renamed to FINDING NEVERLAND, which is now its definite title). I have a friend that saw the film, and he says that Depp portrays J.M. Barrie PERFECTLY and that he may very well receive an Oscar nomination, as might Kate Winslet and the film itself. A trailer should be sometime soon. There's more related info on the film up at PeterPanFan.com".
Here is my rough translation of an German article
TV FEATURE spoke with the star, whom lives his partner
and children in Paris and L A..TVF: The author, whom you play in this film, has sleep problems.
You have two children, how do your sleep?Johnny Depp:
I tell you, at the moment you have children, sleep withdrawa begins. (laughs).
I have the quiet fear that it will continue my whole life, it will go on the same way
- no matter how long I live.Do you have a way to fall asleep?
Depp: If I sit on the couch and watch a film, I fall asleep at once.
That is my best sleeping drug. Perhaps it is because of the fact that I've made films
so long that they all put me to sleep - particularly those, in which I act! (laughs)You got over it, not getting an OSCAR for "Pirates of the Caribbean"?
Depp: I don't think about such a things, completely honestly. I swear to you that it is enough for me,
to have been nominated. I would have frozen, if I had to go up onto the stage and have to thank you.
With the Golden Globes and Oscars the industry mean to show respect. My applause was for the whole hall. They are enormously successful. How do you keep from being an arrogant asshole?
Depp: Not long ago I saw a totally terrible film with Hector Elizondo ("Die Superaufreisser", 1985;).
Hector is a professional actor, since primevil times. We spoke much about money, because I had none at that time (laughs) and could hardly pay the rent I asked him, how money changes a human, and he said, money does not change a person, it exposes him. With money you can be your real self. And if you are an asshole, you
remain an asshole, only a rich one. I have seen some people who behave like ones, in a way that I hate, and others just the opposite.Everyboyd admits that you distance yourselves from the footlights rather. Do the hysteria of the limelight still disturb your personally?
Depp: I tolerate everything that concerns me, because I chose that for myself. But with my children are another matter, they have not asked to be constantly chased by the Paparazzi, to be hounded in the park if they want to use the swings. That is not fair for them, but it is for me.
They are not forty.(?) Does the age have a special meaning for you?
Depp: In June I'll be 41 already. For me 40t was an unbelievably good year. I couldn't have invented it better for myself. Forty feels well. I felt alive for the first time when my daughter came in to the
world came, the first time I saw her. She is now five, my son nearly two. I love being a father and believe
I'm rather good at it. The only competition, which I want to win, is to be the best father. Everything else runs
second. How are your experiences with your life in France?
Depp: The Frenchmen accepted me very in a friendly manner. I knew no French and remember some appeared to view me as strange. But they were very patient with me. My parents live in Kentucky, we often visit them with the children, but Vanessa could not live in America. She would miss France too much, her family, our gang is very close.

Cannell has struck an exclusive long-term deal with Anchor Bay Entertainment to release his TV series on DVD, including shows like 21 Jump Street, The Greatest American Hero, The Commish and Hunter.
The deal has actually been done for months. Anchor Bay has been busy producing bonus material for the DVD sets, such as of cast and crew interviews, audio commentaries and making-of featurettes. Cannell has been actively involved in the creation of the bonus materials. By the time Terri ("Size don't matter, anyway...") Clark takes the stage at Fan Festival tonight (Thursday, June 10), the mystery about her video hero will be over. Hitting CMT today -- as a Hot Shot debut -- the very mysterious mystery about just who is "very Carribean, very swashbuckling and very sexy"
in Clark's big budget Sean Silva-directed "Girls Lie, Too" will be resolved.Until now, all the kohl-eyed guitarslinger would say was "How about three shillings and we forget the name..."
-- and no one has been talking. Perhaps because of the confidentiality agreements people signed on the set.
All we know is this: her dog Oscar makes a cameo, a skull & crossbones was flown on the limo delivering the hero to the castle, there's a bold-faced name -- and a hilarious romp through every kind of excess imaginable.
"Look, I think people are gonna be surprised... and they're gonna be surprised," says the normally candid songwriter. "But even more than that, they're gonna laugh so hard, they'll miss half of it the first time they see the clip. I was there, and I know I did the first time through."And as for the mystery, well, it was fun in the beginning... I mean, the Nashville Film Festival even called my management to invite me and Johnny
(Depp) to the premiere of one of their films. But after a month of not being able to say, I'll just be glad that it's out, we're done... and we can start laughing about how clever the whole concept is 'cause it's way more than just a co-star."
Look for Terri to sing "Girls Lie, Too" on the Coliseum stage tonight -- as a ramp up for her induction as the first Canadian woman to ever be made a member of the Grand Ole Opry this Saturday night.

Today's Horoscope for Johnny from the Sun Herald
CELEBRITY PROFILES: Johnny Depp is at the top of his game this year. He's got a wonderful set of movies coming up, including "J.M. Barrie's Neverland," about the imagination and life experiences that led Barrie to write "Peter Pan." Geminis live in a unique intellectual place -- it's almost like they never stop dreaming, even when they're awake. Depp's active imagination gives his characters fantastic nuance and depth.and from the Mercury News:
BIRTHDAY GUY: The talented Johnny Depp was born on this day in 1963, in Owensboro, Ky., and grew from merely another handsome face on TV's ``21 Jump Street'' to charming audiences as Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood and the offbeat buccaneer of ``Pirates of the Caribbean.'' Depp is slated to appear as the title character in a remake of ``Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.''

Johnny: From 'Pirates' to Peter PanJune 9, 2004
This fall, 'Pirates of the Caribbean' swashbuckler JOHNNY DEPP takes on the role of Peter Pan creator J.M. BARRIE in the magical movie 'Finding Neverland.' Tonight on ET, we have an exclusive sneak peek at the trailer!"It's a masterpiece of imagination," says Johnny about the seminal children's tale. "It's one of those rare, perfect things in the world that will always be with us, and, one has to wonder, with such a powerful story, where in the world did it come from?"
Inspired by events in the life of Scottish author James Matthew Barrie, 'Finding Neverland' begins with the premiere of Barrie's latest play in turn-of-the-century Edwardian England and its tepid reception. Bored with the themes of the day and in desperate need of inspiration, Barrie finds his muse in the unlikely form of four fatherless boys and their recently widowed mother, Sylvia (played by KATE WINSLET).
Up against the disapproval of his wife (RADHA MITCHELL) and the boys' grandmother (JULIE CHRISTIE), Barrie takes it upon himself to enchant the Llewelyn Davies boys with disguises, games, tricks and wild tales of kings and castles, cowboys and Indians, swashbucklers, pirates and fairies. Inspired by childhood fantasy, Barrie begins to write his timeless tale, Peter Pan, Or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up, risking everything -- including loyal benefactor Charles Frohman's (DUSTIN HOFFMAN, who starred as STEVEN SPIELBERG's 'Hook') risky investment -- for the most important opening night in his life.
"From what I gather, Barrie was only truly comfortable around children," says Johnny. "I think he didn't know how to love or be loved in an adult way, and he was always looking for approval and maybe even for a mother figure. I created him from bits and pieces of observations from people who saw him as quite a dark figure -- yet mixed together with the flashes of light and happiness that surely led him to write Peter Pan."
Watch ET for more with Johnny Depp and 'Finding Neverland,' in theaters this October!

Chocolate Factory Update
Casting and the score.June 07, 2004 - There's word today, via the Hollywood Reporter, that actor David Kelly (Waking Ned Devine, Laws of Attraction) has been cast as Grandpa Joe in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Kelly will star opposite Johnny Depp (Wonka) and child actors Freddie Highmore (playing Charlie), Annasophia Robb (portraying Violet) and Julia Winter (as Veruca Salt).
The Roald Dahl adaptation follows a boy and his grandfather on a tour of a candy factory owned by the eccentric Willy Wonka.
Composer Danny Elfman, a frequent Burton collaborator, is getting set to start work on the film. He recently told SCI FI Wire, "As soon as I'm done with Spider-Man 2, I jump right into both Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and another animated Tim Burton film called The Corpse Bride. ... It just looks like it's going to be tons of fun. The first attempt at writing a first idea for a song [was] so whacked out. I just sat there writing this crazy thing in the middle of the night and put 20 voices on it myself as a demo. I sent it out there, and Tim liked it."

Grandpa Kelly Touring Burton's 'Chocolate Factory'By Borys Kit
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - David Kelly ("Waking Ned Devine") has nabbed the role of Grandpa Joe in Tim Burton (news)'s "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," starring Johnny Depp (news).
The Warner Bros. project is based on the celebrated Roald Dahl book, in which a young boy named Charlie (Freddie Highmore) and his grandfather tour a candy factory owned by the eccentric Willy Wonka (Depp). The book was made into a film in 1971, with the screenplay by Dahl, but titled "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." According to Warners, Burton's take will skew more closely toward the book than the 1971 version.
Kelly's other recent credits include "Laws of Attraction" and "Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London."

Johnny Depp ... St Helens tourist
Fear & Loathing in Lancs
By DEREK BROWN
Deputy Showbiz EditorCOMIC Johnny Vegas knew just where to take Hollywood star Johnny Depp for a taste of Britain — the Lancashire industrial town of ST HELENS. The pair snubbed classic tourist destinations like the Lake District, the Yorkshire Moors and Pennine Hills. Instead, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas star Depp headed for his pal’s hometown, famed for its GLASSWORKS.
The two Johnnys became friends after meeting on the set of their film The Libertine on the Isle of Man.
Vegas ... hometown visit. And Vegas was keen to show off his roots. The funnyman began by taking the movie heart-throb on a mini pub crawl of St Helens before they headed off to see the sights. And anyone thinking the place proves it’s grim oop north could not be more wrong. Highlight of the day out was, of course, Pilkington’s celebrated glass factory. Glassy ... Pilkington works were on the tour There was more excitement with a visit to see the Knowsley Road ground where St Helens rugby league team play.
Vegas, 34, is a big fan of the Saints. The pair may also have been drawn to St Mary’s Arcade in the town centre, the giant statue of Queen Victoria and the Plaza nightclub. Pubs included the Brown Hedge, where Vegas used to work as a barman, and the York. Saints ... Home of Vegas's big rugby heroes
They also visited the Wheatsheaf Hotel where Vegas — real name Michael Pennington — is a regular.
A punter said: “We are quite used to seeing Vegas around here but you do not expect to see Hollywood superstars. “I only wish I’d had my camera — my friends will never believe me.”Boozer ... Bird I' Th' Hand is popular alehouse
Vegas still lives in St Helens and says he will never move away. He invited co-stars Samantha Morton and John Malkovich to join the day out — but they found they were sadly otherwise engaged. Depp, 39, lives in France with his sexy wife Vanessa Paradis. (yes, we know they're not married) No doubt she can hardly wait to hear all about St Helens.

Excitement has been rippling across Hay in Wales amid rumours that Hollywood's very own Johnny Depp is about to roll into town.
Locals have heard whispers that Depp, who had been shooting the new film The Libertine nearby, is planning to drop by for the tail-end of this week's literary festival. A barman at The Wheatsheaf, who had a shock when the famously anglophile thesp walked in a couple of months ago and ordered a half-pint (! ) of bitter, told me:
"He loved this place. He complimented us on the beer and told us how he loved the countryside and rolling hills. He said he hoped to come back and visit some time. Now apparently he's planning to come to the festival."
