What happens when the romance fades but the tattoo doesn't?Johnny Depp
When Johnny Depp tattooed "Winona Forever" on his right bicep as a tribute to then-fiancée Winona Ryder, the actress was bowled over by his blood-encrusted commitment. "I sort of was in shock," she said in 1991. "I kept thinking it was going to wash off or something. I couldn't believe it was real. I mean, it's a big thing, because it's so permanent." Or not so much. When the engagement of the "Edward Scissorhands" sweethearts fizzled after three tumultuous years, Depp decided to alter his tribute to the more succinct "Wino Forever." Winona apparently shed few tears over the tat, telling Rolling Stone post-breakup, "It's like, 'It's there. Oh well' ... He's a great guy, but I really don't think about it." Now 41, the Oscar-nominated actor is no longer the hotel-trashing hellion of his youth (though his face has amazingly failed to register the passing years), and despite his epidermal epithet, he lives a relatively quiet life with French actress Vanessa Paradis, the mother of his two children.

The amazing chocolatier
Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka
Everybody give a cheerIf you've managed to survive the trailer without having the song stay in your head for days, you're lucky. While a lot of people have complained that the film seems to diverge from the 1971 Gene Wilder version, it's important to keep in mind that for director Tim Burton, that's completely intentional. That earlier film took a different path than the book in many cases, resulting in a movie that kids could enjoy, but was really over their heads a lot of the time. That's likely to continue to be the case with this 21st century version, but it is supposed to adhere much more closely to Roald Dahl's vision for the characters.
Trailers and previews so far show a completely trippy film with an appropriately annoying Johnny Depp at the forefront as the marvelous Willy Wonka. Meanwhile the kids, including Finding Neverland's Freddie Highmore as Charlie Bucket, look to have been just perfectly cast. While there's always the danger that Burton could pull another Planet of the Apes here, the hope would be that the film will be so chocolaty good that an adaptation of the superior Dahl sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, could be in the making. Watch him pull a rabbit out of his hat!

Women dump metrosexual men for macho ones!:-
(question from Kazren: Where do they poll these women? Well, the poll was commisioned by Dodge TRUCKS.)
New York | April 29, 2005 12:26:21 PM ISTWomen prefer men who conform to the earlier macho men stereotypes rather than the metro sexual male who spends hours in saloons preening himself, according to a new survey.
The Harris Interactive survey, commissioned for Dodge Trucks, revealed that ladies prefer tough men like Russell Crowe and Vin Diesel to David Beckham, Johnny Depp and Jude Law.
"We don't want a man to say, 'I just got a manicure, so I can't do the lawn today,'" Sheila Ellison, editor of the 2004 anthology "If Women Ruled the World," said.
Sixty-one percent said they'd rather have a man with work-roughened hands, compared with the 39 percent who like a guy with polished manicured nails.
"We have a lot of women looking for a real 'guy guy,' not someone that looks prettier than them, that has better clothes than them," said Robin Webber, a marketing coordinator for 8-Minute Dating, a dating service.
"They want to have the nice stuff and have the guy say, 'You look pretty,'" she added. (ANI)
From the Herald & Review
Who's influential? Time has the answersTime magazine is hipper than you. Way hipper. And its editors aren't afraid to make you or your peer group feel foolish in efforts to show you how way hip they are.
A recent issue of the magazine designated the "Time 100," movers and shakers in the world who will be shaping the way we think, act and live this year.
Among the lists were 23 in the arts. (Jay-Z and Melissa Etheridge, artists in their own right, appear on other lists.)
Take a look at the list on this page and see how many of those named you can identify. The reason they're famous will be detailed at the end of this column. But in discussing the list, we'll have to give away a couple of answers.
If you can't identify some of the people, don't feel bad. A decent cross-section of people here were, on the average, only able to identify about half of the list. A number of them had "d'oh!" moments. One person was upset with himself for forgetting the name of an author whose most recent book he'd just read. Others knew Ziyi Zhang's face, but not the name.
(My moment of humiliation came with my first glance at the list, which had a number of misspellings and bizarre capitalizations, leaving me to wonder about the band Time put on the list, The Halo Creators. Upon further review, it became clear they were referencing the creators of the video game.)
Some of the people on this list are clearly edgy just for the sake of edgy, attempts to encompass all forms of art and all nations. There's nothing wrong with being inclusionary, but one has to question why a rapper, a soul singer and a Latin pop star were all chosen over U2, which is in the midst of the unprecedented feat of remaining a relevant and popular band 25 years after its first release.
U2's too old to make a list like this, you might think. Time showed no aversion to putting older influential folk on the list, as witnessed by the inclusion of 75-year-old Academy Award-winning director Clint Eastwood.
Another actor's inclusion leaves me confused. Not Jamie Foxx, who finally seems to be getting some overdue recognition (watch "Ali" and tell me he's not the best thing about it) and can actually get projects started. (A Jackie Robinson biography is possible thanks to Foxx expressing an interest.)
But this Hilary Swank appearance on the list - that's a baffler. There's no questioning the actress' talent - she's two for two at the Academy Awards. But unlike Foxx, she doesn't have the clout to get a film off the ground. She even had to audition for "Million Dollar Baby" and convince Eastwood she could pull off the role.
Without clout, where's influence?
Here's Time's list of those who do have clout, and the reasons you might know them:
Ziyi Zhang - actress, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "Hero," "House of Flying Daggers"
Kanye West - rapper
Quentin Tarantino - director, "Kill Bill," "Reservoir Dogs"
Hilary Swank - actress, "Million Dollar Baby"
Art Spiegelman - underground cartoonist, 1992 Pulitzer Prize winner
Alice Munro - author whose short stories are regularly featured in The New Yorker magazine
Hayao Miyazaki - Japanese animation director whose "Spirited Away" won an Academy Award
Alicia Keys - Grammy-winning singer
Juanes - Latin pop music superstar
Miuccia Prada - fashion pop movie star
Jon Stewart - host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," author, comedian
Marc Newson - designer of furniture, watches, cars, planes
Michael Moore - director of "Fahrenheit 9/11," author
Halo creators - designers of the popular video game
Cornelia Funke - children's book author
Jamie Foxx - actor, "Ray"
John Elderfield - curator at large at the Museum of Modern Art in New York
Clint Eastwood - actor, Oscar-winning director
Johnny Depp - actor, "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Finding Neverland"
Ann Coulter - attorney, author and commentator
Marc Cherry - creator, "Desperate Housewives"
Santiago Calatrava - architect
Dan Brown - author, "The Da Vinci Code."

Revenge of the kids
April 26, 2005
By Patrick Goldstein, Times Staff WriterTHE BIG PICTURE: The Summer Movie Posse is called to order, and these eight teens lay out what they think is hot and what and who is so not.
One of the great things about teenagers is that, while they may take a "whatever" approach to the fight over privatizing Social Security or successfully naming the mayor of Los Angeles, they are full of strong opinions about the really important things in life, starting with why Jessica Alba is cool and Lindsay Lohan is not.
There is no better way to help decipher the baffling intricacies of pop culture than by corralling a group of teenagers and letting them gab about summer movies. Now in its fifth year, my Summer Movie Posse is an informal focus group of neighborhood kids who watch trailers for the most hotly anticipated youth-oriented summer films. (To make their parents more comfortable and to prevent them from being deluged by Hollywood marketers, Posse members are identified only by first name.)
This year's group of eight teens, assembled by my neighborhood pal Gabe and his younger sister, Ta, would never pass muster as a statistically significant sampling. But as media savvy teens, they represent a key target audience for movie studios. During much of the year they may see only one movie every three weeks. But during the summer, they see a movie nearly every week, which is why studios cater to their whims in pretty much the same way that Vegas hotels roll out the red carpet for a high roller with a wad of thousand-dollar bills.
Studio marketers often argue over whether white Westside teens have the same attitude about movies as kids in South Philly or Oklahoma City, but judging from past Posse juries, their reactions aren't out of sync with the rest of the country. Last year, their favorite trailers were "Anchorman" and "Dodgeball," which went on to be hits. The low scores went to "Soul Plane" and "Van Helsing," which were duds.
At the very least, they are pop culture canaries in a coal mine, offering a sneak peek at who's on the way up and who's on the way down. They loved Johnny Depp before he was in "Pirates of the Caribbean;" they loathed Jessica Simpson long before she had her own reality TV show. If someone jumps the shark, they're the first to know. This year, they were especially dismissive of Lohan, star of the upcoming "Herbie: Fully Loaded." As Alex, 18, succinctly put it: "The only person who [is worse] than Lindsay Lohan is Hilary Duff."
Although the summer is loaded with remakes and sequels, the teens have an abiding affection for some pop artifacts but not others. The boys were all deeply nostalgic about "Star Wars." And everyone was eager to see "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," partially because of Depp but largely because they all had fond memories of the original film. On the other hand, they had little interest in "Herbie" or "Bewitched," which were taken from sources that had little resonance for them.
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"
Ta: "It feels too over the top, but I'd still see it because of Johnny Depp."
Travis: "I'd see it too, but I think I'm going to have nightmares about him."
Gabe: "I don't like his hair. It looks really creepy."
Alex: "You think he looks like Michael Jackson?"
Jack, 18: "I still think Johnny Depp is the kind of actor you don't mind spending two hours with."
Ichizo, 14: "If only he was in 'XXX.' "
"Fantastic Four"
Travis: "I wouldn't miss it. I've been a 'Fantastic Four' fan since kindergarten."
Ta: "I like superpowers, so I'd definitely go see it."
Gabe: "The music was awesome, especially the Perfect Circle, which is one of my favorite bands. I'd go see the film just because of that."
I've discovered a fabulous artist who does great work - specializing in Pirates of the Caribbean - and I've talked her into letting me link to her site. Here is her banner.

Johnny Depp could be making an appearance at the long-awaited opening of the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Buckinghamshire (England) on June 10. It's hoped that the star of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (which opens in July) will be joined by authors JK Rowling, Philip Pullman and Jacqueline Wilson, all of whom have contributed to the centre's all-important creative writing section. This will reveal all manner of juicy tidbits to aspiring young writers, such as the fact that it took Dahl seven attempts at James and the Giant Peach before he got it right - and that it was originally a cherry.

A Foreign Policy Magazine's Johnny on the Spot
By Richard Leiby

(excerpt)It's obvious why a Washington magazine for foreign-policy wonks would feature on its cover Bob Zoellick, the deputy secretary of state; Yuliya Tymoshenko, the new prime minister of Ukraine; and Gordon Brown, the United Kingdom's chancellor of the exchequer. But screen heartthrob Johnny Depp?
"The goal is to cover foreign policy and have a good time," says Robert J. Guttman, owner and editor in chief of Transatlantic magazine, a bimonthly based at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, where he's a senior fellow. "I want it to look totally different from Foreign Affairs and Foreign Policy," two of his competitors.
The latest issue's cover story hypes 20 institutions and people "who will make a difference in transatlantic relations in 2005," as Guttman writes in an editor's note. Deciding to spread the glory to "less obvious choices," he included France-based actor Depp, "Harry Potter" creator J.K. Rowling, seven-foot-tall German basketballer Dirk Nowitzki (who plays for the Dallas Mavericks) and Spanish actress Paz Vega, star of "Sex and Lucia" and more recently seen in "Spanglish" as the Mexican housekeeper for Adam Sandler and Tea Leoni.
"I rented 'Spanglish,' " Guttman tells us, by way of explaining one of his research methods. A 58-year-old veteran editor of political and policy mags here and in Europe, he chose Depp in part because of his teenage daughter's excitement about seeing the actor as Willy Wonka in the forthcoming "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
Says Guttman: "We hope to reach a younger and broader audience. You can't get more different than Johnny Depp and Bob Zoellick." Well, we're sure some people must think the No. 2 person at the State Department is kinda sexy.

Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria on Husbands, Gardeners, and Her Secret Crush on Johnny Depp
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 2005--INSIDE TV, the new weekly consumer magazine targeted to women who love television, debuts today (April 25; on newsstands April 21) with an exclusive interview with Eva Longoria. TV's sexiest "desperate housewife" reveals in the publication's first cover story, "I don't think I'll be ready to get married again until I'm in my forties," but adds that she wouldn't mind having one of Hollywood's hottest actors, Johnny Depp, as her screen husband.
"I was totally star struck! He was just a few people away from me. I almost died," she told INSIDE TV, gushing about her near run-in with the heartthrob at an Oscar party. Asked what she'd say to Depp if she ever got the chance to meet him, she replied, "I'll tell him: 'I can't talk, because you're so beautiful'!"The divorced, 30-year-old beauty has plenty of reasons these days to break into the mischievous trademark grin of her "Desperate Housewives" character, Gabrielle. Cosmetics giant L'Oreal has just signed her to a $2 million contract (she says she's excited about all the free products she's going to get), and the phenomenal success of her TV show has allowed her to buy a bigger house, and like art imitating life, she can even afford to hire a gardener. "But he looks nothing like Jesse Metcalfe. It's very unfortunate," she jokes, referring to the hunky actor who plays the teenaged gardener with whom the married Gabrielle is having an affair.

Introducing...... Paul Karslake, artist
Tom Templeton
Sunday April 17, 2005
The ObserverJohnny Depp based his Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean on a portrait of Keith Richards that he saw in Richards's house. 'Keith's wife asked me how I saw him,' says Paul Karslake, who painted it. 'I said I've always seen him as a pirate, so I painted him as one with a box of treasure, a ship and a Caribbean moon - then I saw the exact same scene in the film.'
Karslake's apprenticeship with his architectural model-maker dad taught him to use an airbrush, a skill which stood him in good stead when he moved out to LA, painting hot rods and Harleys for a living.
'I was hanging out with the rock'n'roll crowd. The English accent helps incredibly. 'I'd turn my hand to anything. I did some racing cars with penguins all over them for Fleetwood Mac, and I painted John Belushi's jacket for the film 1941.'
Karslake has painted Dustin Hoffman, Dennis Hopper and, recently, Kate Moss in the arms of her hero Elvis. But his favourite work is the Boeing 727 he painted for British Midland: 'I get a kick knowing there's a huge plane hurtling around with my art on it.'
· Karslake's latest show is at the Hollywood Arms, London SW3, from 22-28 April (www.harrylangtonart.com)

Life outside the celluloid closet
April 18, 2005
The Sun-HeraldWarren Beattie nailed it in the movie-length, fly-on-the-wall doco In Bed With Madonna. Frustrated by the constant presence of her film crew, he asked sarcastically: "Why say anything if it's not on camera?"
It's an issue that divides the stars. For some it's simple - nothing's real unless it's on celluloid. But there are others who guard their privacy jealously and refuse to court publicity, no matter what the effect is on their career.
Johnny Depp and his singer-wife Vanessa Paradis hate the fame game and won't think about living in Los Angeles.
"There's no reason I should share my private life with the whole world," Paradis once said. Depp added: "I'll never understand the animal, the machine of Hollywood business. And I don't want to understand it. It's like joining a club, a clique, just because everyone else is in it."
Matt Damon once lusted after fame but soon realised there was a limit to the public's patience and now shuns the off-screen limelight if he can. "You become the poster child for tabloid magazines," he admitted. "It really puts a stranglehold on your career. Nobody wants to read about you every day in these magazines and then pay 10 bucks to see your movie on a Friday night."
AdvertisementAdvertisementFight Club's Edward Norton agrees. "Fame is very corrosive and you have to guard very strictly against it," he said. "I've never felt any particular encroachment of that celebrity stuff into my life."
For the most part, keeping your private life private appears to be a male goal. Sandra Bullock is an exception. "I'm not going to complain about being a celebrity," she said. "I have a normal life and I take pains to make sure I do all my crazy stuff out of earshot of the press. A very wise friend once said, if you invite the press to your wedding, they should be allowed to come to your divorce. That really sank in."
Sadly, Spears and co appear to have taken that advice literally.

No Rum for Benicio del Toro
Posted on Thr, 14-Apr-2005Talking to the BBC, Josh 'Snogging Holmes' Hartnett revealed that Bruce Robinson ["Jennifer Eight"] has taken over from Benicio del Toro as director of "The Rum Diary", a film based on the book by the late Hunter S.Thompson.
A bizarre love story about an alcoholic young journalist in politically unstable San Juan, Puerto Rico in the late 1950's, the film reunites "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" duo del Toro and Johnny Depp, as well as Nick Nolte and Hartnett.
Fired for kicking in a candy machine at a small-town newspaper, Hunter S. Thompson fled to Puerto Rico, where his vagrant journalist lifestyle inspired his first novel, "The Rum Diary".
The movie was originally supposed to shoot in December of 2003.
Thanks to 'Scuzzlebutt'
andJosh Hartnett has revealed to The BBC that Bruce Robinson ("Withnail & I", "Jennifer 8") has taken over from Benicio del Toro as director of the adaptation of Hunter S. Thomspon's "The Rum Diary."
Originally scheduled to shoot in December of 2003, the project has been in limbo for almost two years now due to assorted problems. Penned in 1959 by a then 20-year-old Thompson, the writer's first novel is a bitter little tale about angry men and one angry woman. It follows Paul Kemp, a hard-drinking, peripatetic cold war-era journalist who boosts himself out of New York for a stint in the sun in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Kemp is hoping for a tropical respite but instead wanders into a bad situation.
The Puerto Ricans, fed up with greedy, prejudiced Americans, have been beating up the reporters for the News, Kemp's employer. Kemp, rarely sober, soon finds himself on the receiving end, along with his comrades, a moody photographer named Sala, and Yeamon, a guy who attracts trouble like his pretty little girlfriend attracts men.

Trompettes du Mozambique is, I think, a French band, which has 12 to 16 members (some of whom play the trumpet). Their music is described as a mixture of reggae, rock, funk, and jazz, combined with traditional Breton (French) music.A website that discusses the band says (in a translation of French to English): The music without the creative side of funny characters would be a pity. There is, for example, the insane passion of several of the band members for Bernard Hinault.
Hinault is a famous French racing cyclist. A website devoted to Hinault (http://www.bernardhinault.com/) says he dominated all disciplines of international cycling throughout his reign from the late 1970's to the mid 1980's, with a determination and ferocity seen only in cycle racing's great champions. Hinault's cunning, strength and bravery earned him the title, "Le Blaireau", or "The Badger" and perhaps summed up the character of a man who refused to be beaten even when the odds were stacked against him.
The band has adopted as its mascot a stuffed badger, which they call Bernardo Blaireau (Bernard the Badger). Bernardo Blaireau follows them everywhere. "One band member keeps it, each one in his turn, showing him the landscape wherever he is.

Memorial to gonzo may need a permit
If 15-story structure is permanent, county consent needed
By Steve Benson
April 11, 2005Plans to erect a 150-foot-tall, double-thumbed fist in Woody Creek to honor Hunter S. Thompson will require a permit from Pitkin County if it is intended to be a permanent monument.
And if a gargantuan public party does occur, Lance Clark of the Pitkin County Community Development Department said a special-use permit will need to be obtained from the county. Additionally, details such as where people are supposed to park, and possibly camp, will need to be addressed.
Actor Johnny Depp apparently helped design the memorial structure and has offered to donate as much as $4 million to see it come into fruition, said Michael Cleverly. The longtime Woody Creek resident was one of Thompson's closest friends.
"It's quite a deal - it could be the tallest thing between Denver and Salt Lake City," said Cleverly, who writes a column for The Aspen Times.
While there have been rumors that the monument would be erected in August to coincide with a massive public celebration of Thompson's life, Cleverly said he was unaware of any solid deal.
He said that Thompson's widow, Anita, who has been spearheading the celebration, was out of town. He added that they would meet sometime this week to further discuss the plans.
"Things do flux quite a bit," Cleverly said.
Plans are reportedly in the works to blow Thompson's remains into the air from the towering structure in August.
The legendary gonzo journalist killed himself in his home on Feb. 20.
"I really don't know what's planned," said Michael Owsley, Thompson's friend and a Pitkin County commissioner.
As for holding a gathering that could attract thousands of people to the notoriously anti-growth, anti-mainstream locale of Woody Creek, Cleverly said it would only work for someone like Thompson.
"That's the only way that the neighborhood would take such a thing," he said. "Hunter was a really good neighbor. The neighbors were always invited [to his parties] even if you weren't a crony. Whether he was their cup of tea, people liked him.
"I would say a [large gathering] would have a far better chance of being tolerated in this neighborhood than in any other neighborhood."
Both Cleverly and Owsley agree that a large party is needed for a figure such as Thompson.
"Hunter is worth remembering," Owsley said. "It's been very hard for people in Woody Creek. Just having him here even though you weren't up at his house meant a lot. Not having him around is hard for people to deal with.
"So I think if you have this kind of [celebration], in some way it will help people heal."
Tattoos in workplace depend on job from Deleware Online
By MARY ELLEN SLAYTER / The Washington Post
04/11/2005![]()
Some people wear their hearts on their sleeves. Other people hide their hearts under them - bright red "I Love Mom" tattoo, anyone?More than a third of young adults have tattoos, according to a 2003 survey by Harris Interactive. And contrary to our grandparents' dire warnings, our employment options haven't been limited to bank robber, prison warden or merchant marine.
The judgmental attitudes are still there, though, and I can't help wondering to what degree this aggravates the generation gap in the workplace. Only 16 percent of Americans across all ages have a tattoo, compared with 36 percent of those 25 to 29. The Harris poll didn't break down attitudes by age, but it did find that people who don't have tattoos think that people with tattoos are less attractive (42 percent), less sexy (36 percent), less intelligent (31 percent), and more rebellious (57 percent).
Now, I don't care whether the people I work for think I'm "less sexy" because of my tattoos, but if they think I'm dumb because of them, that's a problem. But there's no point in trying to argue there's nothing in the tattoo ink that damages my brain cells; I just keep my two tattoos under wraps most of the time. I admit that the longer I've been at my current job, the more relaxed I've become. Whether this is to my detriment, I guess I'll never know.
As comfortable as you are with your body art, you still have a decision come job interview time. You have three basic options:
Flaunt it. The wisdom of this depends on where you're trying to work. If you're a barista, for example, it's practically part of the uniform. (I used to be one, so I'm not just stereotyping; all my co-workers had tattoos.) Other careers where I've seen heavy saturation of ink: video game developers, Web developers, graphic artists, bartenders, professional athletes and rock stars (duh!).
Cover it. This is easiest to do with clothing, but whether that works depends on where you put the tattoos.
"I actively chose my locations because they're so easy to cover," said Rachel Ulrich, 23, a first-year law student at Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio. She loves her body art, but her ambitions ultimately guide her decisions. "I really want a huge back piece of Lady Justice, but I won't get it because when I'm president, I'll have to wear a backless evening gown to my inauguration ball, and although it'd be neat, it would also give the Republicans more fodder to hate me."
Except for all the Republicans who also have tattoos. That same Harris survey found that 14 percent of Republicans (across all age groups) have them, compared with 18 percent of people who identified themselves as Democrats.
You can also use makeup to cover a tattoo. Color-corrective stage makeup works best, but a good drugstore concealer can also work in a pinch.
Actor Johnny Depp supposedly smeared dirt over his many tattoos to cover them while filming "Pirates of the Caribbean." I can't say I recommend that for a meeting with the senior vice president of finance.
Remove it. Most people don't regret their tattoos, according to the Harris survey. But if you do, options for erasing them have gotten better. It's still painful and expensive, though.
The No. 1 reason for regretting a tattoo is not job-related; it's because a person's name was in the tattoo. (Just ask Depp. Winona was not "forever," it turned out.)

I've got a Golden Ticket...
Wonka Bars: Promtional tie-in to Charlie and the Chocolate FactoryNestlé Rowntree makes fictional sales promotion a reality
Nestlé Rowntree is to turn the most famous sales promotion from the world of fiction into a reality to mark the release of summer movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
As official partner of the Warner Bros film, it is launching three products that are featured in the story Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight, Nutty Crunch Surprise - the surprise is it contains no nuts - and Triple Dazzle Caramel. There will be five Golden Tickets to be found inside the wrappers, replicating the promotion in Roald Dahl's classic book which earned Charlie Bucket and his Grandpa Joe a trip to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.
In the real-life promotion, winners will get an opportunity to take their family on a trip to the US where they will get a chance to visit Warner Bros Studios and the set of the Wonka factory.
The products and promotional activity, plus a TV ad campaign, are to be launched in July to tie in with the release of the film, which stars Johnny Depp as Wonka.
Nestlé Rowntree sales communications manager Graham Walker said: "Combine this world-famous promotion with the anticipated popularity of the film among a wide range of consumers and shoppers, and it's clear that retailers are facing a massive opportunity here.
"In the film, we've effectively got a 90-minute advert or put it another way, a 5,400-second advert for these entertaining new products.
"There is no doubt that this amazing package will have a stunning effect on retailers' business while adding real value and excitement to the category."

Parting Shot for Hunter Thompson
4/11/2005Even dead, Hunter S. Thompson is still gonzo: Anita, the late authors widow, April 5 confirmed rumors that his ashes indeed will be fired from a cannon mounted on a 53-foot-high sculpture of his signature gonzo fist near his home in Aspen, CO, sometime in August. Its expensive but worth every penny, she told the press. Id like to have several explosions. He loved explosions. Celebrity friends including Bob Dylan and Johnny Depp are expected to be on hand for Thompsons parting shot. He committed suicide February 20 at age 67.
Even more set pics from POTC2 are coming out - be sure to click on the link above to keep up on Johnny's film projects.I have corrected my mis-typed link. And a new book related to POTC is coming out.

Letters: Desist on Depp
Saturday, April 2, 2005It has occurred two times now, and it is finally time for me to complain. Your Jan. 20 issue regarding the Golden Globe awards trashed Johnny Depp and listed him among "our picks for the night's fashion losers."
Your Oscar edition of March 3 was at it again. Biko Beauttah says, "Johnny Depp was the clear contender for ringmaster at the circus." I guess Biko is not aware that JD is preparing his look for a reprise as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean or else is not aware that dressing against the grain is "just Johnny."
Those of us who follow his career and appreciate his iconoclastic take of "life in the norm" admire him very much and always look forward to positive reviews of his life and career. He is an actor who is not afraid to step out boldly he is a trendsetter, not a follower.
And, before you dismiss this letter as being from a teenage groupie, please know that although I am admittedly a groupie, I am 56 years old, a registered nurse with an adequate income, married, and totally committed to Johnny Depp. I actually enjoy my JDOCD (Johnny Depp obsessive compulsive disorder).
Judy M. Harris, Henderson, Texas
More strangeness from HELLO because the most recent poll was for March, but if you look at the page on th elink, it's for February. Well, at least Johnny won.
Rumor has it that "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" will premire in the US at the Chinese Theatre, and in London at the London Palladium (July 17)
