Crispin Glover Joins Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’
Published by Elisabeth Rappe on Friday, October 24, 2008 at 10:09 am.

Crispin GloverThis has to be a match made in heaven. The Hollywood Reporter announces that Crispin Glover has joined the cast of Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland.” Amazingly, these two eccentrics (and I mean that in the best way) have never worked together before, though Glover seems tailor made for Burton’s unconventional films. However, Glover is likely to have been brought to the fold by Johnny Depp, who has worked with him in “Who’s Eating Gilbert Grape” and “Dead Man.” It’s a small world after all.

Glover will be playing the Knave of Hearts (joining fellow royals Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter), who is put on trial for stealing the tarts hand-baked by the Queen of Hearts. She’s determined to send him to the chopping block for the crime, and Alice and the Mad Hatter are both called upon to defend him.

Alice’s efforts land her a sentence of her own, and the Mad Hatter proves to be a useless witness because he’s too nervous about losing his own head. As is the case with most of Alice’s adventures, it never resolves itself, as she awakens from her dream before the Knave is sentenced.

Unlike the rest of the cast, Glover is no stranger to motion capture, which makes up part of Burton’s “Alice.” You probably remember that he was the man underneath Grendel in Robert Zemeckis’ motion-capture “Beowulf.” He was really the standout of the film, so it will be pretty fun to see what he brings to the Knave of Hearts. And how cool will it be to see Glover and Depp play off each other? “Alice” is really getting more exciting by the day.

I know there’s some Crispin Glover fans out there — how do you feel about him finally working with Tim Burton? Happy to see him reunite with Depp? Or do you just wish he had a bigger part?

Burton slips Glover in his Alice
Crispin Glover joins quirky cast list that also includes Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Matt Lucas for Tim Burton's film of the Lewis Carroll classic

He may not be the biggest name in Hollywood, but Crispin Glover always makes his presence count. From playing Michael J Fox's dad in 1985's Back to the Future, to 2003's creepy Willard and even last year's CGI-fest Beowulf, in which he voiced the monster Grendel, Glover always manages a larger than life turn that makes you wonder why he's not the go-to guy for anything vaguely weird and quirky.

Tim Burton obviously agrees, as the Hollywood Reporter says the maverick film-maker has signed Glover to star alongside Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter in his forthcoming big screen version of Alice in Wonderland. Glover will play the Knave of Hearts, who as all good students of Lewis Carroll know, is put on trial for stealing the Queen of Hearts' tarts, with Alice defending him.

Burton has assembled a tantalising cast list for a movie which will be shot in a mix of CGI and live action. Matt Lucas of Little Britain fame is playing Tweedledum and Tweedledee, with Depp as the Mad Hatter and Hathaway and Bonham Carter as the White and Red Queens.

Alice herself is played by the previously unknown Australian teenager Mia Wasikowska. Alice in Wonderland is due in cinemas in March 2010.

Ann can't wait to Kiss Johnny Depp

ANNE Hathaway says she only signed up for her latest film so she could kiss Johnny Depp.
The actress, who will star alongside the heartthrob in Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland, says she can’t wait to lock lips with the actor.

She said: "I met him at the MTV Movie Awards when I gave him an award and he kissed me on my cheek - that was very thrilling."

"I’m working on getting him to kiss the other cheek, that’s why I did the movie, Tim Burton is great, but I just want Johnny Depp to kiss me."

Anne is currently tipped for an Oscar for her role in Rachel Getting Married - but she says it's a little early to be taking too seriously.

She said: "I have gotten some Oscar buzz, which is very cool, but I think it’s a little premature to get excited about – but it’s very flattering."

Pirates star pops into pub for a pint while filming Alice
Wednesday, October 08, 2008, 23:00

ONE of the world’s biggest movie stars dropped into a pub near Exeter for a pint of bitter and a bit of roast beef.

Alice In Wonderland star Johnny Depp took staff and regulars by surprise when he sauntered into the Sandy Park Inn at Chagford and ordered a pint.

Inn owner Stephen Adams told the Echo: "We were all just amazed."

Johnny is currently in the Westcountry filming Alice in Wonderland, at Antony House, near Torpoint, with director Tim Burton. He is playing the Mad Hatter in the Walt Disney Studios film.

But he took a break from the lights, cameras, action to see the Devon countryside on Sunday — and that's when he came upon the Sandy Park Inn.

Stephen said: "There are so many country pubs and he stopped at ours. We were absolutely delighted to have him.

"He was with another chap who I did not recognise.

"Mr Depp was fantastic and was really good with the staff. The women were all stunned just to see him.

"He was very friendly and got involved in a chat with some of our local characters, who really enjoyed themselves. He seemed to be having a good time.

"He had a pint of Otter bitter and had the roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings. He said he thought it was excellent and remarked upon the home-style cooking, praising the chef."

Stephen, who took on the inn two months ago added: "It was amazing. Sadly, I didn't have a camera. In fact nobody did. I have now bought a throwaway camera which I keep under the bar — just in case it happens again."

The inn often receives visits from other stars, including the cast of Jam and Jerusalem, Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French, who film in the area.

Filming of Alice in Wonderland started in Devon last month. Alice is being played by 18-year-old Australian actress Mia Wasikowska. Little Britain's Matt Lucas stars in a double role as brothers Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.

Depp and his long-term partner Vanessa Paradis, the 1980s pop singer, have two children together and own a 150-year-old mansion in Somerset as well as a French vineyard.

Alice in Wonderland is due for release in 2010.

‘ALICE’  - A Disney Film Production – (Waste) Managed by TQ Recycling!
October 2008

TQ Recycling can claim another first.

The latest Disney film called ‘Alice’, based on the stories of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Alice’s adventures through the looking Glass’ is being filmed on location in the West Country, primarily at the National Trust property at Anthony House, Torpoint.

During initial site investigations Disney’s UK production company, Bandersnatch Productions, mentioned to the National Trust that they would like to be as environmentally responsible as possible with the considerable amount of waste that would be produced on site – “look no further than TQ Recycling!” said the management of the National Trust (themselves long-standing TQ customers)

Bandersnatch met with TQ Recycling and set a number of waste management challenges for the full six weeks of filming at Antony House:-

provide a diverse range of bins and containers in all production areas of the set for up to 700 people during the filming period
maximise the recovery of waste for recycling
provide collection times to suit the demanding filming schedule of the production company
advise on the procurement of building materials and set materials, i.e. plastic ground covers, to ensure they could be recovered for recycling
provide a strategy for segregation of construction and demolition waste

TQ Recycling delivered a comprehensive solution within days and implemented the plan during three distinct stages of the production:

Stage 1 Construction

During the construction phase wood, cardboard and plastics were collected from the construction of the sets.

Stage 2 Filming

With a population of 700 production crew, actors and extras on site each day, Stage 2 was the longest and most demanding:

TQ Recycling designated various locations as “primary waste management areas” and strategically positioned a variety of 50 large bins and containers around the site. Everything possible was recycled, including glass, plastic bottles, drink cans and paper from the many catering facilities that supported the film crews.

TQ arranged flexible collection rounds were to suit the production company and the facility for on-demand collections were also made available.

Stage 3 Demolition and Clear up

The clear down of the site had to be carefully managed to ensure that the plastics specifically chosen for their recyclable characteristics were fully recovered from the film set, and that Anthony House was returned to the National Trust in pristine condition – not even footprints could be seen through the looking glass!

Steve Tooke of TQ Recycling said ‘the contract was great for TQ and that Johnny Depp sure is a great guy!”

A Hollywood version of Alice's Adventures In Wonderland has begun filming in Cornwall, with newcomer Mia Wasikowska, an 18-year-old from Canberra, Australia, in the title role.

Tim Burton in the set of his new film Alice in Wonderland

Lewis Carroll's much-loved tale is being adapted for the big screen by US director Tim Burton.

Johnny Depp will play the Mad Hatter while Matt Lucas and David Walliams, the stars of television show Little Britain, have been cast as Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.

The film, titled Alice in Wonderland, will be a mixture of live action and computer-generated effects. It is due for release in the spring of 2010.

Burton's previous box offices successes include Edward Scissorhands and an adaptation of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The Mad Hatter is one of several roles that will keep Depp busy over the coming year.

He is reprising his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean instalment. It was announced yesterday that he is to play Tonto in a Disney film version of The Lone Ranger. The tale of a masked hero and his Native American sidekick started out as a 1930s radio serial but is best remembered as a 1950s television show starring Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels.
